A little history of the Ugg Boot

The History of Ugg Boots

From Australia's Official Dictionary: The Macquarie Concise Dictionary - ug boot / Australian 100% merino sheepskin lined boot. Also called ugh boot , ugg boot.

Did you know that Australian Sheepskin Ug boots have always been called Ug, Ugh or Ugg boots and have been made in Australia for almost 200 years? "We always called them Uggs, Smith says, "long before it was a trademarked brand." Brian Smith, Founder UGG Holdings, Inc. Los Angeles Magazine October 1st, 2001

The Ug Boot Story

The original Ug Boot. "Ug," (also spelled "Ugg" and "Ugh" in Australian dictionaries) is not a brand name but an age old generic term for this style of Australian-made sheepskin boot. In Aussie slang, the Ug name is short for "ugly." In terms of comfort, however, the Ug Boot is a thing of beauty. The softness of the Australian Merino sheepskin produces a boot with a snug, cozy, form-fitting feel that’s more like a sock than a shoe, yet it’s rugged enough for outdoor wear. The fleece lining has the astonishing property of providing year-round comfort. In cold weather, the plush fleece provides an insulating layer of warmth by trapping your body heat, much like goose down does. But in the heat of summer, the natural fibers of the fleece actually cool your feet by wicking away perspiration.

Growing Up in Ugs

By the 1970s, in Perth, the largest city on Australia’s West Coast, Ug boots were being manufactured by several small companies in the area. Perth has much the same climate as Southern California and is also a haven for surfers, whom Aussies call "surfies." And it was the community of surfies at the great surfing beaches at Margaret River near Perth who first adopted Ug Boots as their footwear of choice and made them a symbol of the Aussie surfing lifestyle.

Ug Fever Spreads

From the beaches of Western Australia, Ugs were soon seen on the feet of East Coast surfers from Brisbane to Sydney. And it wasn’t long before some of these surfers -- the ones who traded their surfboards for skis in the winter -- found that their Ug Boots were just as at home in the ski resort areas of the Snowy Mountains as they were on the warm sands of Sydney’s Bondi Beach. Australian Ugg Boots

Many people think that Australian Ugg boots is one of the strangest fashion trends that have hit the footwear fashion scene. These boots are a strange choice in comparison to other items that have become popular. Nevertheless, these boots are great and well worth the price. They have also become something of a fashion phenomenon in recent years. You should know that you are going to pay a good sum to get your hands on some authentic Australian Ugg boots.

These boots are made from the same basic style but they come in many different colors. Those who wear Australian Ugg boots say that they are very comfortable which makes them immensely popular. These boots are also extremely warm and soft at the same time. You should go for the real thing if you can get many types of copies.

My youngest son recently received a pair of these boots from a cousin that lived in Australia. They are a light brown color, and I was surprised to feel how warm they are. These boots are also lightweight and easy to put on. My cousin insisted on them even though I tried to protest due to the cost. My soon uses them for slippers in the wintertime even though they are boots. Australian Ugg Boots have a good sole on the bottom and also have great traction. More...

How to Care for your Uggs

As many people around the world have now decided to join in thelatest trend where these boots are concerned and you are also thinking about buying a pair. Yet, once you secure your pair then what do you need to do to ensure that they stay looking as fabulous as the day you brought them.

Firstly, one of the best things you can do to make sure that you keep them looking as good as the day you brought them is to not use them when the climate is extremely wet or there has been a new fall of snow. Remember these boots have not been designed for wet conditions, but rather to ensure people’s feet are kept warm during the cold weather months.

If you do find that your boots have got shoddy then it is advisable that you wash them by hand and with cold water only. Whatever you do, don’t put them in a washing machine or use hot water as this will cause irreversible damage to the sheepskin on account of shrinkage etc. If you consider it when you sling a lovely new wool jumper in a washing machine on a hot wash what is the first thing to take occur to it, it shrinks. One Of The Most Popular Shoes On The Market

The Loafer

There are a lot of people in the world that will opt for style over comfort when selecting their footwear; I am not one of them. I see women all the time stumbling around on stiletto heels that have got to be killing their feet and are horrible for the health of their feet, knees, and hips just because they want to be sexy. I could care less what someone thinks if the shoes aren't comfortable. Out of the thousands of different shoe styles we see on the market the loafer is really experiencing resurgence in popularity. Here are just a few of the reasons for the revival.

As I alluded to above, I look at comfort first when choosing shoes and apparently in the current market I am not alone. Other people who wear loafers will tell you the same thing, that they are the most comfortable footwear that they own. In addition these shoes allow your feet to breathe and they are good for the arches of your feet. Due to the fact that most of them are highly cushioned in the sole this also adds to the overall comfort. Unlike many other shoes, you don't rush to get these off as soon as you come in the door of your home as you do with most other shoes. More...

Shoes For Different Style Dresses

Sandals are high heeled, strappy shoes that have no fully closed area. Open toe shoes have all closed areas except for a small opening at the very front of the shoes (like a pump with an open front) or a sling back with an open toe.

Open toes shoes are more popular this year, and you can find them in abundance, but every designer is also making the more classic dressy, black-tie pumps as well. You can wear open-toed shoes with hose so long as the hose have a sheer toe. It is sandals that you should not wear with hose but the open toed shoes can certainly be worn with sandal foot hose! Sandals are high heeled, strappy shoes that have no fully closed area. Open toe shoes have all closed areas except for a small opening at the very front of the shoes (like a pump with an open front) or a sling back with an open toe.

Silver purse and shoes are the best unless the jewelry includes yellow gold.

Wear sandals and not shoes with any a dress that has short sleeves and is an empire waist.

You can wear a variety of different shoe colors with a plum or maroon dress. First suggestion would be to wear sandals - something with a high heel and definitely strappy. You can always wear black sandals! Metallic, bronze, silver or gold are also a good choice. Make sure to coordinate your jewelry. Silver sandals would be terrific if you wear white gold or sterling jewelry. Also, match your handbag to the shoes. More...

Orthopedic Shoes

Orthopedic shoes are not just for older people anymore. Many people of all ages experience problems with their feet such as heel or arch pain.

Wearing the incorrect type of shoe or shoe size can be the cause of a lot of discomfort in your feet, ankles and legs. Women tend to wear a lot of high heeled shoes, which are not optimally designed for the body. High heeled shoes often squeeze the toes tightly together and bring the arch of your foot up too high.

Men tend to wear only one or two pairs of shoes. Where running or everyday shoes are great for the feet, men’s dress shoes are often stiff and squeeze the toes in a similar way to women's high heeled shoes. Wearing the same shoes all the time can make you feet hurt because there is no variation in the muscles used in your feet.

Orthopedic shoes are designed and manufactured to help develop the correct muscles in your feet and legs. They will relieve pain in your feet, ankles, legs, and back.

Orthopedic shoes offer many features that traditional shoes don't, such as Arch Support. Having arch support in your shoe will help absorb shock keep your feet in the proper position. Orthopedic shoes also offer extra width. Finding out what width your feet are and choosing orthopedic shoes that fit correctly will give you a lot more comfort and support. More...
