Where Did The UGG Boot Appear From?

Susan Green

The ugg boot originated in Australia where the term was used to
describe any boot made of sheepskin. The word ugg was thought to
have stemmed from the word ugly as the boots were not deemed to
have been very aesthetically pleasing. So, how did they develop
from the ugly boot to the must have fashion item of the past
year?

The ugg boot was used by pilots in World War I as its fleece
lining was ideal to keep their feet warm. For the same reason it
is believed that farmers from as long ago as the 1930's wore the
boots in the fields. The boots grew in popularity in the 1960's
when surfers would put them on when they came back to shore and
they then started to be worn around the house as extravagant
slippers during the winter months.

These ugg boots are still made by many manufacturers in
Australia - remember that the term ugg is used for a style and
it not a brand name there - but they are now having to market
them as Australian Sheepskin Boots and not Ugg Boots. This is
because a US company has been founded called UGG Australia and
Ugg Boot is now a registered brand name.

Nobody quite knows when these boots became a fashion item and
stopped being used for practical reasons alone. Obviously, their
comfort, warmth and practicality have helped them grow in
popularity but nothing sells a product as well and as quickly as
celebrity endorsement and Ugg boots have had an awful lot of
that. Celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Pamela Anderson, Kate
Moss and Sienna Miller have all been seen wearing them and
openly confess to being fans of the footwear.

Sheepskin Ugg boots are available in two different lengths -
tall and short. The tall version almost comes up to the knee
whereas the shorter style is not much more than an ankle boot.
They can have a flat heel or a slightly raised chunky one and
can be lace up or slip on styles. The boots are available in
shades of brown and beige, in addition to which are the pink and
purple ranges available in women's sizes only.

By now you have probably gathered that the Ugg boot is ideal to
wear in cold weather as they keep your feet lovely and warm.
However, due to the nature of sheepskin, you are not advised to
wear them in excessively wet or muddy conditions. They are also
impractical for snowy weather.

If you so find you need to clean your boots at any time you must
always use cold water to do so. Hot water can permanently damage
the delicate sheepskin and so should be avoided at all costs.
For the same reason, you must ensure your boots are left to dry
naturally and are not situated near a direct heat source. The
boots should be stuffed with newspaper when drying in order for
them to keep their shape. The newspaper also absorbs some of the
moisture from the boot and so aids the drying process. Chemical
products are available to help with the cleaning process but
they should be used with care and only products specifically for
this type of boot should be used as others may cause damage.

What You Missed at L.A.'s Fashion Week!

O Penn

This was perhaps the most serious event to hit Los Angeles this
year. The yearlong impact of this event is so significant that
this convention lasts an entire week. Powerful people from
numerous sectors of the glamour industry flocked to L.A. to
submerge themselves as deeply as possible into this gathering,
because what was revealed will have worldwide significance over
the next year. It was Fashion Week and knowing every detail of
what unfolded over the past week determines heavily whether you
are hot or left out in 2006.

This is definitely no laughing matter. Scoff if you must, but do
cover your mouth if you do so. Normalcy is a sickness here.
Events of this nature are reserved for very special people only.

Here is recap for those who missed out last week.

Dark colors did permeate the landscape of the designers this
week as a tribute to the remainder of the world outside of the
scope of the fashion industry.

Coiffeurs and coiffeuses paid rapt attention to ensure that they
know the right do to do this year. Such an error could drop a
hairstylist from the rank of $250 a cut to being on the waiting
list for a job at Super Cuts™, dropping status faster than a
2006 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 accelerates from zero to 60 mph (2.5
seconds). This year it is more complex than usual, as both long
and short styles are in. Stylist will be out on the proverbial
limb because patrons will have to decide for themselves. Not
good.

The iPod® has really arrived this year. It has been glamorously
accessorized with a jeweled holster. Those caught promenading
around without the holster will be classified "Wal-Mart' by
those in the know.

Paris Hilton brought an entourage with notebooks and
walkie-talkies to ensure that she captures every minute detail.
Can you imagine being seen in boot-cut, $500 blue jeans when the
appropriate call this year is a pair of straight legs?

For those seeking to be mistaken for six-foot, 110- pound
fashion models, leggings are the fashion statement of 2006. It
is rumored that this began when NBA star Kobe Bryant began
wearing tights below his shorts during ballgames.

Speaking of professional sports, a special section for wives and
girlfriends of professional athletes has been established to
allow the nouveau rich a "training period' to transition
themselves to matriculating with the vapid veterans of
superficiality. A similar section was set up for the spouses and
girlfriends of "gangsta" rappers but was dropped due to numerous
noteworthy complaints being registered by the gals. Echoes of
"Excuse me!" and "Oh no you don't!" were heard aplenty. So, the
idea was dropped immediately to avoid further problems.

Bebe recruited Oscar®-nominated costume designer and Madonna's
stylist Arianne Phillips to breath new life into an article of
clothing that has been around at least since the 1800s.

Fashion designer Cardona introduced basic clothes that were
predominantly black and gray with traffic-light reds and Concord
grape. Collections from Bebe, David Meister, Juan Carlos Obando,
Louis Verdad and Kara Saun followed suit.

Many offerings resembled clothes readily found in JCPenneys or
Sears with one minor difference. These clothes are very, very
expensive, and despite being nothing more than clothes seen for
years, these clothes are being called "innovative." Of course,
this is being said by the same folk people who are selling these
clothes, but they would not say if it just to say it.

It is truly amazing how the fashion business steadily takes
numerous concepts or fashion statements that originally stem
from poor people immersed in abject poverty and transform those
into clothes nobody but the very rich can afford.

With all the problems this world faces it is good to have a
place for rich people to gather and worry about their clothes
and appearance. Lord knows that this is important. It must be
great to live in a bubble that prevents you from thinking or
worrying about anything more serious than how you are going to
look when you go out at night.

I am not sure how practical any of these designers' self-serving
fashion statements would fit into everyday life. But if you are
looking for something shamelessly expensive to wear on Halloween
that will make you look like a Picasso abstract, a plethora of
options are available.

You will be playing catch-up for the entire year if you missed
this year's Fashion Week!

Birkenstock Boots - Durable Footwear With Sole To Boot

Helen Walters

When you think about birkenstock footwear, most likely sandals,
and perhaps clogs come to mind. Certainly that is what they are
most famous for. Very comfortable, durable sandals that are
great for both casual daily wear, and even casual summer
parties. Those who have used 'Birks' know that they will last
for ages and gently form to the shape of your feet to provide an
excellent fit that is just right for you. If you have any doubt,
simply slip on another person's pair and you'll understand.

However, Birkenstock has recently added boots to their line of
footwear products expanding out from sandals and clogs to
include both shoes and Birkenstock boots. Time will tell if they
are as successful as the sandal line, but if their sandals are
any proof, the boots should be a success as well.

There are 3 basic types - approach/day trip boots in the
Birkenstock Alpine series, regular aggressive hiking boots in
their Rockford line, and a several trendy boot styles like the
Segovia Calf-boot for women.

When you go out to look for a new pair of Birkenstocks, you may
find that they fit a little differently than what you are used
to. Don't let this bother you. Simply try on a slightly
different size and you should be able to find a pair that is
comfortable for your feet.

No question boots are not what made Birkenstock famous. However
they their experience producing top end casual footwear gave
them a great base for developing a quality line of boots from
the start. They were able to do it all without loosing sight of
their core principle of simplicity and durability.

So, the next time your go shopping for a quality pair of boots
or shoes be sure to check out what Birkenstock has to offer.
They may be slightly more costly than other sandals, but they
will last much longer, and will be more comfortable on your feet
and back as well.

Guides To Find A Good Pair Of Steel Toe Shoes

David Z

These days steel capped shoes are big business both from a
safety point of view and inverse snobbery as a fashion accessory
for the "punks". To decide how to find the best pair of steel
toe shoes for your purpose I decided to review the "review sites"

Steel-Toe-Shoes.com claim to be the "largest source of safety
shoes on the web". What I liked about the site was its clear
returns policy, how to send something back. It demonstrates that
it does have a clear after sales policy and the quality matters.
. It caters for special needs as in large sizes and wide shoes
as well as splitting the sales into male and female. They have a
good clearance section, which clearly shows there current
offers. The price range is very wide and the selection is
enormous. If you can't find it here then you can't find it on
the Web.

Shoes for Crews deal in steel capped shoes for the industrial
workplace. The emphasis of this site is slip resistant shoes,
both for the dress occasion, walking and for industrial shoes.
There are a wide range of styles and prices but all made by the
Shoes for Crews.

Hunts Supplies actually cover more than steel toed shoes they
cover work wear including protective hats and leisure wear as
well. They have 163 entries for safety footwear covering 14
brands.

Nextag.u.k. have reviewed the steel toe shoes by brands and
cover four categories, type material and by price. However this
is purely a sales site, as there is a section for ratings, but
they are empty. What is good about this site is that they have
clear pictures and specifications as to exactly what you are
buying. They are all under £50.00.

Northern Tool and Equipment have over boots and boots by Boss
and Cat. They cover all price ranges from $15.00, but the
majority of their goods fall into the higher price bracket of
$50-$100.

Walkerland deal only in their own brand of walking/safety boot.
The boots are clearly marked as to their level of safety
standard an example is shown below.

" Goodyear Welted soles that are oil and heat resistant to 300c
and comply with CE & BS EN345 standards".

There is not a huge choice here but it is an easy to navigate
site.

One for the Ladies is the Surplus & Outdoors, has army, safety,
and equestrian boots amongst others. They have a very clear
sizing chart for boots and clothes, which compare the different
ways of measuring a foot size in Europe, the States and the U.K.
There is an enormous customer care section and it is obvious
that their product's and quality mean something. A beautiful
site if you can survive the colour, which is a harsh green!

Rocky Shoes is a review site. It is split into stores, price
reviews product reviews. Despite the size and the selection
available you can refine your search very easily, which means
you spend the minimum time finding your requirements.

Wild chicken online store specialise in "muck" boots the
protective ware that you would use for gardening. They seem to
specialise in U.K. delivery, but they do have a modern take on
the old fashioned clog the steel boots so popular in the
industrial revolution.

Snakeskin Cowboy Boots

Barry Hooper

Probably the nearest anyone would want to get to a giant python,
rattlesnake or cobra is a pair of luxurious href=http://www.timsboots.com>snakeskin cowboy boots.
Wearing these boots will really make you feel like a million
bucks --- cowboy boots were originally designed to protect the
cowboys' calf from all kinds of problems found around the arid
ranch and desert areas, and of course, this includes poisonous
snakes.

But you do not need to be a snake wrangler to get these boots.
But be warned, once you put them on, you may never want to take
them off. Apart from being sublimely comfortable and soft, (the
leather will mould easily to your foot), genuine snakeskin boots
will also give your ego a boost, whether you are a weekend
cowboy, or an urban cowboy, or a genuine cowboy. They will fit
like a glove, and you will receive nothing but compliments.

There are many types of href=http://www.timsboots.com>snakeskin boots to choose
from. Maybe you prefer rattlesnake or cobra? Or all python?
Because of their sublime comfort and stunning good looks, there
are many other products, including belts and wallets, made from
these leathers. By far the most luxurious and practical are
cowboy boots. The epitome of cowboy good looks has got to be a
pair of exotic snakeskin cowboy boots teamed up with a matching
snakeskin leather belt.

As with many things, cheap imitations abound. Be very careful
where you buy your snakeskin cowboy boots, especially if online.
Do your homework, and look for a real professional outfit that
will treat your order with the greatest of care. The best
recommendation is from previous customers, so check that they
have plenty of positive comments from fully satisfied customers.

Ideally, they should be able to offer you the full range of
cowboy boots, and be happy to answer any and all questions you
may have. Make sure you go for someone with a proven track
record of excellent customer service, with a top notch delivery
service. The best prices and fast shipping are also something to
watch out for.

Ideally you are looking for craftsmen who pride themselves on
excellent workmanship and great service. Look for a large
selection of boot styles and also a wide range of sizes and heel
and toe sizes. If you are lucky enough to find someone like this
online, then a wise decision would be to investigate the price
of handmade boots. If you thought the ready made boots were
heavenly to wear, and they are, wait until you try on a pair of
handmade snakeskin cowboy boots!

These boots will not be cheap. And if they are, then you can be
pretty sure that they are not handmade from these exotic snake
leathers. These boots should be viewed as an investment in your
image, and in your comfort. With the right care, they will last
you for many years to come, and as you wear them, they will
become more and more your favorite item of attire.

It is worth investing in the right type of cleaning fluid for
your precious boots. Again, a professional service provider
should have the full range of exotic leather products needed for
taking great care of your investment. You work hard for your
dollars, so put in the leg-work finding a first class snakeskin
cowboy boot merchant, and wear your American made cowboy boots
with pride.

Ugg Boots - What to Wear with Them?

Allison Thompson

There is a very simple answer to this question; you can wear
these boots with just about anything. There are no hard and fast
rules of what you should wear them with; in fact you will find
that people do wear them with just about anything.

Because the Ugg boots comes in so many different colours and
styles, it makes this item of footwear very versatile and very
desirable. You can get a pair for a more casual look or you can
go for a pair that will give you look a bit of pizzazz. Just
imagine whatever colour you want the sheepskin can be dyed to
match.

You will find that many people are not just wearing them to keep
their feet warm, but you will find them wearing them out to
dinner, on the dance floor, at work or even when on holiday
either when skiing or on the beach. No matter what look you are
trying to achieve, the Ugg boot can help you to achieve it.

The one good benefit of these boots is that they are not geared
to any one section of society, not only can you find Uggs for
women, but you can also find them for men, children and infants
as well. So you think the idea of wearing these on the beach
sounds a little insane, well just remember that during the
1970's the surfers did. It seems that the craze for these boots
was started by the surfers even though the boots had been around
for a long time before then. The reason that surfers took to
these boots so quickly, was the fact that when they came out of
the water they were able to slip them on and warm their feet up
quickly. These boots have in fact become an essential part of
any surfer's equipment along with the surf board of course.
Because the Australian surfers were searching the world for the
perfect wave they took their boots along with them, and suddenly
the popularity of this boot had exploded on to the fashion scene.

Although Ugg boots are made from genuine sheepskin (preferably
Australian Merino) they can be worn in all types of weather.
When people think of wearing boots it is usually when the
weather has turned cold, but because the sheepskin of these
boots allows air to circulate these boots also help to keep your
feet cool even when the temperatures outside are rising. The
natural layering of the sheepskin also helps to draw
perspiration and other forms of moisture away from your skin.
Because these boots are comfortable and fit snugly like a second
skin, and due to the comfort factor you find people wear them
everywhere and with anything.

The choice of styles available range from short to tall to
anywhere in between. You can choose them in a clog or slipper
style. Some even come with tie up laces, top stitching, buckles
and snaps as accessories which can help to give them a
completely different appearance to the normal styles. You can
either choose a pair that will give a feminine look to your
outfit or for the man in your life get him a pair for that
rugged mountain man look. As for colours you can have anything
from black, brown, blue, purple, red, neutral, grey, cream or
any colour you like. With Ugg boots you don't need to stick to
the rules you can just let your imagination go wild.

Go on, be daring, go out and get a pair of Ugg Boots today and
wear them with whatever you want. Just remember you don't have
to limit yourself to wearing them with jeans, you can wear them
with anything.

Ugg Boots. What can be better?

Allison Thompson

Originally the term "Ugg Boot" has referred to a style of boot
made in Australia from sheepskin.

Certainly during the First World War a version of the boot named
the "Fug" (Flying Ugg) was worn by pilots. Then another version
to appear on the scene during the 1930's in Australia with worn
by farmers who wanted to keep their feet warm. However, the rise
in popularity seemed to happen during the 1960's when Australian
surfers would put them on after coming out of the cold
Australian waters to warm up their feet.

Although there are several Australian companies which still
manufacture this style of boots, unfortunately the trademark is
now owned by an American Company called "Ugg Australia". So you
will find now that many boots manufactured by Australian
companies which were originally known as "Ugg Boots" are now
more formally known as "Australian Sheepskin Boots".

But it does not matter whether you call them "Ugg Boots" or
"Australian Sheepskin Boots" the are still both incredibly warm
and soft and over the past couple of years have become a great
hit with not only with celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and
Kate Winslet but also with trendsetters such as Paris Hilton and
Britney Spears alike.

It is thought that the name "Ugg" originates from the shortening
of the word "Ugly". However, it is believed that "Ugg" is a
generic term used by Australians for sheepskin boots. Certainly
if you look in any Australian dictionary you will find the word
"Ugg" or "Ug" or even "Ugh" boots. At present you will find all
three of these terms have now been trademarked by Ugg Holdings
Inc, part of Deckers Outdoor Corporation who are the parent
company of "Ugg Australia". So when you see the term "Ugg Boot"
being used it is normally referring to an Australian made
sheepskin boot or a boot that has been styled on those
manufactured in Australia.

You will find the styles now available both in Ugg Boots or
Sheepskin Boots is varied. They come in short and tall versions
and even a mid calf length. Many women are now able to purchase
their Ugg/Sheepskin boots in a variety of colours from either
pink to purple or tan to brown. However, you will find that most
men's versions of these boots only come in neutral colours. You
can either purchase a pair with a chunky heel and laces or just
a flat heeled slip on version.

Because Ugg and sheepskin boots are considered to be a casual
type of foot wear, you will find many people just wear them with
a good pair of jeans. However because they are exceptionally
warm they are great for cold weather (suitable for wearing
during in temperatures to -30 degrees Fahrenheit). But one
should always remember not to wear them during excessively wet
or muddy conditions.

Although many people are often seen wearing these styles of
boots with just jeans they certainly look great on a woman who
wears them with just a short skirt and a pair of opaque tights
(or if you want to be really daring and the weather is not too
cold then go bared legged). Guys certainly prefer to wear them
with jeans and a shirt to not only give them a casual look but
also to make them look a little rugged. Because the sheepskin
provides warmth to the feet, many people find that they do not
actually need to wear socks or tights even during some of the
cooler periods of the year.

Finally, you need to know how to look after these. Firstly
always ensure that you wash them by hand with cold water. Never
use hot water or place them in a washing machine as this will
cause permanent damage to the sheepskin.

Next never ever place them close to a direct heat source when
drying them. If at all possible stuff with paper towels and
allow them to dry naturally. By stuffing them with paper towels
you are actually helping the boot to retain its shape. If you do
need to use a cleaning product on them, ensure it is one that
has been recommended by the maker of your boots, unfortunately
not every product available on the market for cleaning
sheepskin, suede or leather is suitable to be used on these
boots.

FASHIONS FOR WOMEN 40 YEARS YOUNG OR BETTER!

Monica M. Burns

Ladies.......just because you are 40 Years Young or better, does
not mean that dressing sexy is out of the question for you.
There are many, many fashionable designs out there that will
compliment and enhance your best features and assets. So stop
choosing clothing to "look young" and choose clothing that will
make you "look polished."

The first thing..... is to always choose clothing that fit your
particular body type and choose your correct size. Just because
your friend has an outfit in a size 4 and you are a size 10 and
they make the outfit in your size, doesn't mean that you should
wear it. More than likely, the outfit will not look that great
on you, and vice versa. Fashions for Women 40 Years Young or
better, are sexier and more polished than ever. There are so
many choices. Yes, please get yourself a pair of Skinny Jeans,
heck yeah get yourself a nice mini-dress and some rockin'
stilettos. There is no need to skimp, nor be shy about deciding
on wardrobe choices that you feel and know will look great on
you. Just make sure that whatever you choose is in good taste,
and fits your body type and true personality type flawlessly.
Some Women 40 Years Younger or better, usually go for a more
youthful look, but you want to be taken seriously.........right?
These days everything is about looking younger......and for what
purpose? Why not try looking your vibrant, beautiful, and mature
age for a change. What is so wrong with that? Some women age
very beautifully, but if you keep choosing youthful clothing,
having facial techniques and procedures done to change your
appearance, lip injections, and so on and so forth, you'll all
just look the same. Be an Individual!

Second thing......some great Classic Pieces for Women 40 Years
Young or better to add to her Wardrobe are: Tailored Classic-Cut
Trousers or Slacks, Flat Front Trousers or Slacks, also think
about choosing a Wide-Leg pair, as they offer a more high
fashion look and feel. Jackets/Blazers..........choose a
three-button cuff with a three-button front entry, and
traditional notched lapels, that way you will look more polished
and sophisticated; and always make sure the fit is comfortable
for you. You should update your Casual Wardrobe with a perfectly
fitting pair of vintage washed skinny dark jeans, and a boot-cut
jean with a distressed look also in dark denim. Dark denim can
be dressed up or down and they are wonderful to experiment with.

Lastly......I always advise my clients to "Dress According To
Their True Personality Types" and so should you. Experiment with
different styles, colors, and design patterns. You never know
what new look, image, and trend a Woman 40 Years Young or better
can set-off.

Military-Style Fashion for Fall

Robert Carney

"Military-feminine. If you can get your hands on it, please do!
Plan to wear your boots and look Eastern bloc mysterious
undercover agent unbelievable. Blue-grey and steely colors form
smart top-coats with faux fur trim. Narrow army coats sport
distinct buttons and epaulettes. Soften your hard-as-nails look
with a hint of lace cami that peeks out from underneath the
lapel of your trench, or a surprisingly gorgeous fabric pencil
line, to the knee or just above, slits at the side or back."

Runways this year have if fact seen styles patterned after every
uniform era imaginable . . . from beautiful gold borders gracing
garments with military influence to coats and jackets
reminiscent of Napoleon's style. Buttons are key, large and
small, as they embellish the rich look and cut of these fashions.

Now, just a few more tips to look military chic!

1. Wear your military style jacket or coat overtop your favorite
jeans and with a lightweight or sexy top underneath. You can
keep your clothes simpler due to heavy embroiders,
embellishments, epaulettes, ornaments and the like (especially
so if you're lucky enough to find a really fabulous overcoat or
jacket.) 2. Remember, the look you're going for is not soldier
camo (which to some onlookers may be in poor taste - given the
times.) You are aiming for a classic officer class look, cooler
and Russian romantic. Fur trims are keys, shiny brass anything,
dressings up on the shoulders, and don't forget signature long
shiny leather boot-wear.

3. Keep the overall feel of the outfit hard (with a bit of
mystery of course!) How? Lots of black, very fitted,
waist-accentuating and buttoned-up chic. If the jacket is long,
opt for a belt if possible.

4. Black, more black, and if not black, somber and foreboding
color is key.

5. As mentioned above, boot-wear is essential, so keep an eye
out for the best this season. Try a pair of lower, more
rounded-toe boots. Keep an eye on your hemline and your boot
height when cinching that outfit together. You want to opt for
the most flattering choices for your calves, no matter what's
most stylish!

6. Since your military style jacket is not inherently
feminine.....try it along with your favorite skinny pants (if
you are into "skinnies") or try a flowing skirt. This is the way
to go if you want a softer look.

7. Yes, you can wear your flats with a military-style jacket.

8. Is your military style jacket or coat missing the bling? Not
to worry! Get creative and populate those empty spots and lapels
with your own accessories. If your fashion find doesn't have
pins, big buttons and the like, try out vintage items, medals,
fashion jewelry, and other second-hand items. Get creative, the
items don't have to be military-ish. You can also check out your
local sewing or craft-goods store to dress up your find with
your own custom design.

9. Accessorize to impress. Choose a belt or bag with dictinctive
glamour. In tasteful amount, brass studs, buckles, belts. Keep
it spy-rific.

Fashion for Women

Dhiraj

Woman Fashion

Woman fashion is not just about wearing woman fashion clothing.
It is something that you can associate yourself with. Your urban
woman fashion style should go in consistency with fashion trend
and your personality. Your body frame, skin tone, comfort level
and personal attitude are some factors that determine your
fashion statement.

Osteoporosis can change the shape of your body. Your spine gets
slightly curved, your shoulders get rounded and your waistline
thickens. Osteoporosis causes loss of height as well.

With these changes, it is difficult to wear certain kinds of
clothes. You should focus on hiding the obvious changes in your
body. The styles and the fitting are of prime importance now.

Just trying out various clothes can be a problem. Jackets,
shirts, tops and blouses will pull and stretch awkwardly across
the back. Collars don't stand well. In fact they sometimes fall
apart and gape awkwardly. Skirts don't fall well. They look
clumsy and graceless.

Women with osteoporosis should wear loose fitting clothes with
straight cuts. Tight fits should be avoided.

Round necks or soft cowl necks are the more flattering ones.
Avoid plunging necklines or large square necklines.

Raglan sleeves are recommended. Avoid sleeveless and tight
sleeves.

Choose elastic waistbands. These accommodate changes in your
figure and help you be comfortable too.

Shawls and scarves can be used effectively to camouflage the
rounded shoulders and spine. Use them well. Choose colours that
bring out the best in your face.

Shoulder pads can offset drooping shoulders.

Always wear flat-heeled comfortable footwear. You're very
vulnerable to loosing your balance and taking a fall with
awkward shoes. The smallest of falls can cause a fracture that
may never be repaired. Never ever compromise on safe shoes.

Hot Fashion Tips

1. Try on all of your favorite clothes. Take notes on how they
fit and flatter you. Then shop for similar colors, fabrics,
shapes and lengths. 2. A great fit can make an outfit, just as a
poor fit can break it! 3. A well-cut suit is one of the most
flattering outfits you can own. Remember: dark tones create a
long line. 4. Choose a fingertip length jacket or one that falls
mid-hip. Pants should be straight leg or boot cut and the hem
should be worn slightly long. 5. Select flat knit, fine rib and
jersey tops; Choose pants with flapless pockets, flat fronts
with just enough stretch for added comfort. 6. Show off the
trimmest parts of your body by combining a tight fitting piece
with a loose fitting one. 7. Any color worn head to toe in a
clean, unbroken line will produce a dynamically slimming effect.
8. Don't worry if separates don't match exactly. Tonal
variations are a creative alternative. 9. Taller bodies can take
larger prints and more contrast. 10. The darker a print's
background, the slimmer the look. 11. Blouses: a collared shirt
always gives a torso a few good inches and frames the face
handsomely. 12. A slim v-neck makes the neck appear longer and
is usually very flattering. 13. Boatnecks are great for
minimizing waists and hips, while maximizing sexy shoulders. 14.
If your legs are fuller inside, try a side slit. If your legs
are fuller outside, a mid-front or back slit is a better choice.
15. There is never an excuse for panty lines! A thong is a
girl's best friend - they even come with tummy control. 16.
Bright colors bring attention to an area - make sure you wear
them wisely and only on your most flattering body parts. 17.
Dark hosiery is in this fall. While brightly colored turquoise
and scarlet hose may look great in the store window, muted hues
like teal and wine are much more flattering. Match the shoe and
the hose color to tighten the look even more. 18. A shoulder bag
tucked quietly under the arm is most flattering.

SOME OF THE BEST AFFORDABLE HIGH-HEELS FOR FALL 2006!

Monica M. Burns

Ladies.......Steve Madden and Michael Antonio are two of the
most talented designers of affordable high-heels. If you are
anything like me, you get lots of joy out of a nicely made
4-Inch Heel. I just love them to death! Anyway, being a
fashionista of sorts myself, I am always looking and researching
new and different styles, whether it be shoes, clothing,
handbags, makeup and skincare items. This time........It's Shoes
and Very Tall Ones!

So........as I always advise my clients, before you attempt to
purchase and walk in a high-heel, you will need to practice
first. There is nothing more unattractive than a woman walking
and wobbling in a nicely designed high-heel. You should practice
at home on both hard surfaces and soft surfaces, so that you can
get a true feel for the shoe. Now for my listing of the best
affordable, nicely designed shoes:

❏ Steve Madden's NV1 Shoe - Features Exotic Print, 4.25
Inch Heel, Leather Sole and It Comes In Two Different Exotic
Prints. ❏ Steve Madden's NV Shoe - Suede Upper Peep Toe,
Leather Sole, and Comes in Four Different Colors. ❏ Steve
Madden's Remedie Boot - 4-Inch Heel, Inside Zipper, Leather
Sole, Leather Upper, and Comes In Three Different Colors.
❏ Michael Antonio's Paoli Shoe - Perfect for Dressing Up
or for Casual Looks, 4-Inch Faux Wooden Heel, Comes in Four
Different Colors. ❏ Michael Antonio's Latte Shoe - For A
Polished Look and For A Woman of Sophistication, Pointed Toe
Stiletto Ankle Strap Pump, Comes In Two Colors. ❏ Michael
Antonio's Purang Shoe - For The Confident Woman, Two-Tone Faux
SnakeSkin Texture, Comes In Three Colors.

This is just a short listing, but they are wonderful shoes. I am
a avid fan and client of both Steve Madden and Michael Antonio
Shoes, and they are a perfect asset to any woman's wardrobe. I
love shoes and they are a weakness of mine, but all of the shoes
I purchase, can be worn with any outfit I have in my wardrobe.
When choosing your shoes, always decide on a pair that will
accentuate your wardrobe and stand out. Never try to blend in
with others. It is just boring and not confident. If you don't
regularly wear high-heels, don't you think that it's time that
you start?

You can find the shoes listed in this article at:

Fashion Isn't Just for Skinny People

Kathryn "The Budget Fashionista" Finney

Fall Fashion from the Avenue.com in sizes 14-32.

Fashion is not just for skinny people. The fashion caste system
that separated people into “those who can” (skinny and rich) and
“those who can’t” (everyone else) created by snobby designers
and power hungry fashion editors (who, by the way, are often
plus sized themselves) is crumbling and a fashion utopia is
emerging where fashionistas can look fabulous regardless of
size. Take that Kate Moss!

The Rules

Now, there are few rules you need to follow in order to stay in
fashion. In this diet-obsessed, waif-model culture, designers
still gear their creations towards a size four (shout out to all
of the skinny fashionistas- we love you too!) and their version
of plus size is to just make a bigger size four. Commit these
size rules to heart and watch your style quotient rise. 1. Dress
monochromatically. Dressing in one color de-emphasizes your
problem areas by creating one long silhouette.

2. Break out the Heels. Heels elongate your legs, making you
look slimmer in the process. Stores like Zappos.comhave a huge
selection of pumps and heels.

3. Low-rise is not an option. Very few people, regardless of
size, can wear low-rise pants. Just because it is in style,
doesn’t mean it will work for you.

4. Avoid crop jackets. Crop jackets draw attention to your waist
and butt. Purchase well structured jackets that hit you right
below your bottom. This season, tweed is very hot, so pick up a
cute tweed or velvet jacket. Check out
Loehmanns@smartbargains.com

5. Please don’t abuse the Lycra. Lycra is a privilege, not a
fashion right.

6. Purchase boot cut pants. One of the season’s biggest trends
is the pencil leg pant, which emphasize big butts. Stick with
pants that have a slight flare at the bottom, to create a more
balanced look. Again, tryLoehmanns@smartbargains.com

7. Find a great tailor. Don’t throw out those great fitting
pants because they are too long. A great tailor will be able to
hem the pants to your desired length for less than $20.

The Stores

So where can you buy these clothes? Below are the best stores to
purchase plus size fashions that will enhance your style and be
gentle on your pocket books.

Elisabeth.com. Elisabeth.com by Liz Claiborne is make
comfortable and stylish clothing in sizes 14 and up. The online
store is having a major clearance sale on fall and winter
merchandise. Take an extra $20 off purchases of $180 or more.

Smartbargains.com. Smart Bargains has a designer plus size
fashions from Liz Claiborne, ABS, and more.

Newport News. Newport News has cheap, trendy fashions up to size
28. Almost all of the sizes you see on their size 2 models are
also made in larger sizes.

La Redoute.com. The Parisian online retailer, La Redoute.com,
has some of the best plus size fashions on the web. They are
hip, trendy, and extremely affordable.

Kiyonna. This little website features sophisticated styles for
fashionistas who wear a size 12 or higher. We are pretty big
fans of their dresses.

Oldnavy.com. Owned by the GAP, Old Navy has cheaper, lower
quality versions of the fashions seen at the GAP, up to size
20/XXL. It is great place to stock up on tees, tanks, and other
items you may buy in bulk.

Overstock.com. This is the best online outlet and a great place
to pick up cheap designer items. The plus size section tends to
be a little boring for our taste, but sometimes you can find
deals like a Dana Buchman top for up to 80% off retail.

Target.com. Stop by for toilet paper and leave with an outfit.
Too bad the Isaac Mizrahi line only goes up to a size 16.

Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart’s new George line is hot! Where else could
you score this season’s hottest style - the bouclé jacket - for
$26.00 bucks? More items are being added each day!

Try stopping by your local outlet mall. Off 5th, Saks Fifth Ave
Outlet has an amazing selection of designer plus size fashions
from Donna Karan, Oscar De La Renta and Anne Klein. Also, check
out stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, and
Macys - all of whom have very hip plus size departments.
Bloomingdales and Macys’ plus size departments usually have the
best sales, while Saks Fifth Avenue has more cutting edge
fashions and higher end designers.

Remember that you can be a fashionista regardless of your size.
Don’t let pop culture’s ridiculous fashion caste system dictate
what you can and can’t wear. Arm yourself with a heaping dose of
self- confidence, a purse full of common sense and the rules
above and head to your favorite store and shop!

Different Types of Uggboots

Brian Fong

Uggboots, the latest fashion trend, are everywhere! It seems you
cannot walk by the window display of any clothing or shoe store
without seeing in it a pair of these trendy boots. No matter
where you are in the world, from Australia to California to all
places in between, Ugg boots are there. These boots are hot and
they are not just to be worn in cold weather. How many pair of
do you own? For many people, one pair is simply not enough.

Uggboots are available in a multitude of sizes, colors, styles
and fabric options. And it is no longer necessary to know
someone living “down under” in Australia who can hook you up
with a pair. Retailers nationwide and around the globe are
stocking these best-sellers. It is even possible for you to own
a pair without even having to leave the comfort of your own
home. There are countless Internet web sites selling this hot
item. Of course, once you receive your brand new pair of Ugg
boots, you will want to get out of the house and show them off!

Uggboots are made in sizes that will fit every member of the
family – infants, children, women and men. Full sizes, half
sizes, and all sizes in between are available, if you are
willing to spend the time looking. But don’t worry; it will not
take long to find the perfect size. What may be difficult is
picking out the perfect color.

Chestnut, black, lilac, blue, pink, brown and natural sand are
just a few of the many different color options that you can find
for Uggboots. In fact, these trendy boots are so fashionable
that you will want to purchase several pairs in different
colors. Imagine owning different colored Uggboots to wear to
match your different moods. Red is sure to be an
attention-getter. Natural colors give the wearer that casual
look. Pink is perfect for that flirty, girly look. And classic
black is a color that is sure to go with everything. Uggboots
are available in a variety of fashionable styles. You can
purchase tall Uggboots or short. If you are unable to decide
between tall or short, you can split the difference and get the
three-quarter boot length. And if wearing the popular boot by
day is not enough for you, they are even available in a slipper
style. The latest style to hit the market is a clog style. And
more styles are arriving every day.

And there are more. The tall Uggboot style can be found with
additional fleece detail on the outside , making this style the
ultimate in femininity. When practicality is more important than
looks, Uggboots are available with a tough molded sole and
additional reinforcement in the heel and toe area. This style is
great for wearing in slippery areas where traction and
resistance can help the wearer avoid potentially dangerous falls.

And the exterior look does not end with color or with sheepskin.
These boots are also available in your choice of suede or
leather on the outside. A high-quality Uggboot will be lined
with pure Australian merino sheepskin, but imitation fabrics
abound. Zippers and straps and elasticized sides are just a few
of the other options that will change the look of this must-have
boot.

Big, clunky soles or smooth soles, tumbled leather or
milky-smooth leather, real sheepskin or an imitation, short,
tall, or somewhere in between, Uggboots are the “in” thing to
have in your closet this season. And you’re sure to find a pair
that fits your budget.

What You Need To Know About Australian Sheep Skin Boot

Brian Fong

If you are in the market for a good boot, then you should check
out a pair of Australian sheep skin boot . If you do not know
what to look for when searching for this type of boot, then here
are a few tips. Most importantly, this type of boot is carefully
crafted using the highest quality of one hundred percent genuine
sheep skin. These boots are lightweight, yet they are durable.
They are available in a variety of different style and color
options. Unlike previous times, when one had to know someone who
lived down under in order to get hold of a pair of these
desirable boots, today they are readily available. To ensure
that these boots last many years, they do require proper care
and maintenance.

An Australian sheep skin boot will be made from the hide of a
shearling from Australia or New Zealand. There are single faced
hides and there are double faced hides. The double faced hides
are the best because the wool will be present on both the inside
of the boot as well as the outside. When using a double faced
material, fleece will be on the inside which will keep feet warm
and dry and suede will be on the outside, which will give the
boot its soft and expensive look and feel. You will generally
find that the boot is double-stitched and that both the heel and
toe areas are reinforced. The sole of the boot will likely be
made from a durable yet lightweight rubber material and it will
have a treaded design which will protect the wearer against the
dangers of slippery or icy ground conditions. In a very short
period of time, the soft innersole (which is removable) will
conform to the natural shape of the arch adding to this boot’s
high degree of comfort.

You will find countless styles of Australian sheep skin boot.
These boots are available in tall styles which generally stand
up to fourteen inches high or a three-quarter style which will
stand approximately ten inches high. The boot is also available
in a short style, a slipper style, a work boot style, a clog
style and more. The look of the boot is changeable simply by
rolling down the top edge of the boot to expose the furry fleece
side. These boots are available in sizes that will fit infants
and children as well as adults. Besides the significant range of
sizes, these boots are available in a wide variety of color
options. The colors range from basic black, off-white, tan and
grey to more eye-catching colors including pink, blue, red and
purple. Whether you wish to wear this boot by day or by night,
it will be easy to find a style that will fit your individual
needs and tastes.

An Australian sheep skin boot will be easy to locate. This style
of boot is so trendy right now that all the shoe stores have
them in stock. If you do not feel like hitting the mall, you can
fire up the Internet and quickly find the style and size you
desire. Even if the boots are actually shipping from across the
globe, they will arrive quickly and they will be ready to wear
just as soon as you open the box.

Finally, to get the maximum life out of your Australian sheep
skin boot, you must provide proper care and maintenance. Never
use harsh chemicals for cleaning, extreme heat for drying or
brushes or cloths that can scratch the delicate surface of the
sheep skin.

Choosing Hiking Boots

Marty Rubenski

If you’ve ever been 5 miles from the trailhead with painful
blisters, or even a sprained ankle, you will appreciate how much
your hiking enjoyment rests literally on your feet. The
selection of the correct hiking boots can be the difference
between a great experience and a disaster. The choice of the
right pair of boots can add considerably to your comfort and
personal safety, especially in rugged or difficult terrain.

Before you start comparing the many brands and styles of hiking
boot, consider the type of terrain and your style of hiking. Do
you take extended treks through the mountains or just stroll
through the local park or greenbelt? Select a boot based on the
most difficult terrain you will encounter. Do you carry a heavy
pack? The heavier the pack the sturdier boot you will need. Are
you an all-weather hiker? Do you need a lightweight breathable
fabric or a heaver waterproof material?

Modern hiking boots do not weigh as much as older styles.
Lightweight high-tech materials have replaced the metal shanks
used in older boots and modern fabrics offer many advantages. A
lightweight boot can still offer plenty of support and be a lot
easier on the feet over less rugged trails. Many of today’s top
quality lightweight hiking boots offer a Gore-Tex® liner that
helps keep water out while still allowing your feet to breath.
All-leather boots provide more support than the leather and
fabric styles and they are easier to waterproof. They lend
themselves to rocky terrain but they are heaver and less
flexible. In my experience, leather boots will outlast the
lighter styles, partly due to the heavier construction but also
due to the fact that they have less seams which are always the
weak point in any boot.

Have your feet properly measured and wear the type and thickness
of sock you will be wearing on the trail when trying on boots.
Boots should fit snugly but not too tightly. Remember they will
become more comfortable with wear. Make sure they fit and
provide support around your ankle and instep. You will need good
ankle support, especially when carrying a pack. Hiking boots
will never feel as comfortable as that old favorite pair of
sneakers, but if you develop blisters or have pressure points,
then you need a different boot. Look for boots with foam padding
around the ankle and tongue for comfort. Removable inserts will
help to fine-tune for a perfect fit.

Once you’ve found the perfect pair of hiking boots, be sure to
break them in slowly. Start with short walks around the
neighborhood and progress to 3 or 4 hour hikes before that
weeklong hiking vacation.

Timberland Boots - For Hiking, Camping, and Everything Else

Johann Erickson

Timberland shoes and boots are relative newcomers to the
footwear scene, when you consider the history of this type of
footwear.

The oldest known evidence of boots comes from
a clay impression in Ancient Syria, while cave paintings in
Spain, which date back as far as 15,000B.C. show a man in boots
of skin and a female in boots of fur. More modern evidence was
uncovered in an Egyptian tomb circa 2000B.C.

One of the
peculiarities of boots, is that they were a necessity, and at
the same time, a fashion statement, even in the relatively rough
early periods of modern man. Peasants wore whatever they could
cobble together, while even in the 16th century, men of means
wore highly decorative boots that were useless for all practical
purposes. Somewhere during that era in history, even leather
guilds that crafted boots for gentlemen, realized that something
heavier and more durable was needed for such activities as
riding.

But more changes were in store, before
Timberland boots arrived on the scene. The longer, mid-calf boot
that was popular until the 19th century, gave way to shorter
styles worn with spats. As the 20th century rolled on, the
blutcher army boot served as a precursor to today’s recreational
boot. These were quickly followed by the canvas boot worn by
baseball players in the 1930s, biker boots from the 50s, chukka
boots in the 60s, and in 1975, Timberland shoes and boots became
part of American lexicon.

Today, href="http://www.denimexpress.com/timberland.html">Timberland
produces a wide range of lower cut shoes, and higher cut boots
for dress and casual wear, all with the same rugged durability.

Timberland Shoes
In just the styles and colors you’ll
want most to go with your casual and dress up wardrobe.
Timberland manufactures a line of shoes that meet the demands of
an active man’s life, for both pleasure and business. Choose a
slip-on or lace-up style, with uppers made of waterproof premium
leather, or padded for your comfort. The interior of Timberland
shoes feature removable href="http://www.tvproducts4less.com/phase-4-orthotics.html">orth
otic insoles, and climate control lining, all mounted on an
outer sole of dual or multi density, surface gripping, or
superior traction, according to your choice. Models include
Timberland Montgomery Bay shoes, Madison Summit, Carslbad and
Timberland Shavaro shoes for men.

Timberland Boots
An
outstanding combination of ruggedness and style, Timberland

The Ugg Boot and More!

Kim Neal

The Ugg Boot is one of the most popular types of footwear on the
market right now. Anyone who is not familiar with them should
consider slipping one on! They are remarkably soft and
luxurious. They offer an excellent level of comfort and a
wonderful style as well. They are very warm and cozy. Your feet
will be in shoe heaven! Let’s take a closer look at what is
available in the Ugg line and see if we can’t find something
that you will enjoy!

We can start with the trademark Ugg Boot. These boots are a take
off of a sheepskin boot that has been worn for many years. They
were once used by pilots in World War I and were used throughout
Australia as a wonderful way to keep your feet warm during
winter. They were even used by Australian surfers who needed a
quick way to warm up after riding the waves! Today’s Ugg Boot is
a combination of that same warm feeling boot that warmed people
and a flare of style. They are offered in various colors and
styles, but Ugg is known for their cute shaped boot with white
fluff spilling over the top. In fact, some of those that you may
have heard of are the Ugg Fluff Momma Boot which features Ugg
fluff on not only the inside of the boot but also the outside
and the Pink Uggs which was one of the most popular Ugg boot
colors.

But, this is not the only thing that Ugg has to offer! You will
find that they offer an assortment of products. Staying in the
women’s line, we have many choices. For example, the new Ugg
Cozy is one of the cutest slip-ons that you can own. Your feet
will never want to come out of these. They are clogs that
feature that same sheepskin interior that we love so much. For
something a little most dressy, consider the Ugg Tiburon which
are leather uppers that are simply gorgeous. In boots, you can
choose the classic tall or the classic short boot.

Let’s move on to the Ugg’s men’s line. Yes, men can enjoy the
luxury of Ugg as well. You will find within this line all sorts
of wonderful shoe options. You can start your day with a very
nice feeling Ugg Ascot! This slipper is definitely all man but
offers the same softness that you’ll find in the Ugg Boot. On a
cold winter morning, nothing can be better to warm up your feet!
Or, you may be interested in the Ugg Harbor. This is a more
classic looking man’s shoe that offers distinction and class. Of
course, men can purchase the classic short and classic tall
boots as well. In the men’s line they are more masculine yet
still offer that softness that is hard to find elsewhere.

Another very popular line of Ugg is their children’s line! Yes,
boy’s and girl’s Uggs are some of the fastest growing in
popularity. Start your child out right with an infant Ugg that
is too cute! These are designed to keep even the smallest baby’s
feet nice and toasty! For older children, you can purchase all
sorts of outstanding footwear options. Choose from boots of
course, for even the coldest temperatures, slippers, classy
looking shoes, as well as leathers as well. Boy’s and girl’s
will love slipping these on!

No matter what type of Ugg you are looking for, there is no
doubt one available for you. They have come a long way from
their days of being in World War I aircrafts. And, thanks to
their manufacturer, Ugg Australia, you can feel good while
wearing these shoes while still being in style! You will simply
love the options in color, styles, and designs that you have.
The whole family will be wearing Uggs because they just are so
darn cute and comfortable!

The Origins of Australian Sheepskin

Geoff Sharp

Sheepskin, or wool, has clothed people for millennia, keeping
them warm in wintery climates and comfortable in warmer
environments. Also known as sherling or fleece, sheepskin
continues to be a timeless choice. It is an extremely versatile
fabric, and is used to make many kinds of clothing, from coats
and hats to socks and gloves. Footwear has been one of the most
popular uses for sheepskin; boots, slippers, and clogs made of
sheepskin are valued for their comfort and style.

The initial European colonists settled hundreds of years ago in
Australia with their sheep. The Australian rural landscape is
uniquely suited to sheep, as the weather remains relatively mild
and the landscape encompasses massive expanses of natural
grassland. Similar to most any primitive lifestyle, it was
important for the earliest settlers to put all possessions to
complete use, as resources were often scarce. Not only were
sheep used as a lucrative crop, for trading purposes, and as a
source of food, but they were used for clothing as well. Over
the years, the sheep became the primary crop and chief export
for the entire country. With its dominance of the sheep industry
for such an extended time, it is no wonder Australia was said to
'ride on the sheep's back'. The country's largest and most
significant form of land use is for wool production, with
roughly 70,000 wool-growing properties spreading from north of
Queensland to the mid-north of Western Australia, including
Tasmania and the Islands of the Bass Strait.

Australian Merino

The numbers of sheep are overwhelming. Individual flocks range
from as little of a few hundred to as many as 100,000 or more!

Three-quarters of all Australian sheep run in flocks of 3,000 or
more. Australia produces 30 percent of all wool used worldwide,
from over 100 million sheep. Other significant sheep flocks are
found in the he USSR (117 million), China (111 million), New
Zealand (50 million) and India (40 million).

More than 80 percent of all Australian sheep are a breed called
the "Australian Merino". The outstanding feature of this sheep
is its large size, and is known primarily for its heavy fleeces
of fine quality wool. It is a distinct breed that has adapted to
the specific conditions of the Australian countryside. Geelong,
on the south east coast of Australia, is considered the wool
capital of the world. In fact, Emu Australia, a premier
manufacturer of sheepskin products, controls all processes from
sourcing and tanning to manufacturing in the Geelong location.

"sheepskin = sherling = fleece = wool"

Over time, sheepskin boot production became as much a part of
the Australian history as the cowboy boot is to America's
Western heritage. Sheepskin hides were put to use to create all
forms of clothing, including footwear. The Aussie ranchers made
their boots from the skins of the Merino sheep, after
discovering the unsurpassed quality of Merino sheep wool.

>From the 1820s on, it is this highly valued wool that was
Australia's primary export product. The Merino sheepskin is
perhaps nature's most perfect material for footwear: durable,
yet extremely soft and lightweight, it creates a boot that has a
rich suede texture on the outside and the smooth, gentle fleece
lining on the inside. This is one reason why ug boots are so
cozy.

What Makes Sheepskin Special

Still strong enough for outdoor wear, it is the Merino sheepskin
that is responsible for the boots' snug, comfy, foot-molding
property that feels like gigantic socks when slipped around your
feet. The exceptional fleece lining is a product that can be
worn all times of the year, in extreme cold or in the heat of
summer. In cold conditions, the fleece supplies the feet with an
insulating layer of warmth by trapping in body heat. In the
heat, the natural fibers of the fleece actually keep your feet
cool by pulling perspiration away from your skin; thus keeping
air circulating in the boots keeping your feet dry.

Since sheepskin is naturally thermostatic, you can wear them in
conditions from-30 F to as high as your thermometer will go!
Also, sheepskin contains lanolin and will moisturize your feet
when worn barefoot. In Australia and the US, the typical way to
wear sheepskin footwear is without socks.

Sheepskin Today

In 2002, fashion industries around the world determined it was
an appropriate time to really popularize sheepskin products.
How? By producing and promoting countless styles of clothes made
out of sheepskin. What started out as purely beach-scene style
made its way to ski areas and ultimately wound up finding
popularity in the mainstream fashion industry.

Thinking About Buying Redwing Boots?

Jeff Lakie

Redwing boots have been a favourite choice of workmen for years.
They come in a variety of styles, including motorcycle boots,
and cowboy boots. They're tough and durable and, with proper
care, should last you a lifetime.

Before you buy your Redwing boots, you should decide what you'll
be wearing them for. Will you be wearing them to work? If so,
you should be certain that you choose a pair that can stand up
to the challenge. Redwing boots are proven to be waterproof and
insulated, to keep your feet warm and dry, when you are working
outdoors. Some models even offer a degree of protection against
electrical hazards, up to 600 volts. Other models will give you
protection against punctures, withstanding up to 270 lbs of
force. Redwing Boots also have the Comfort Force, which is a
shock absorbing foot bed which promises the very best in comfort
and extended wear.

If you want your boots to last you a long time, it's important
that you know how to care for them. One of the simplest rules to
follow is to keep your boots clean. They recommend that you wash
your boots with warm water and a stiff brush. As the
manufacturer states, 'Clean boots last longer.' Redwing boots
also sells products to help you condition your boots, like Boot
Oil or Mink Oil. If you want to really protect your Redwing
boots, try protecting them with Red Wing Leather Protector,
which will help protect your new boots against water and dirt.

Redwing boots are an investment and, if they are treated as
such, should last you for years to come.

A Hiking Boot for all types of hikers

Gianni Avellino

Whether you’re an experienced Hiker or are novice to hiking
don’t worry, because there is a hiking boot made for you. Hiking
boots come in all types of colors, shapes and styles. Finding
boots that provide comfort but yet can withstand temperatures
and weather conditions is important.

Your shoes can experience lots of activity like trekking,
climbing or walking. In cooler weather conditions you need to
remember that your boots must provide the proper insulation. A
good quality boot on the market should consist of the best
materials available. High quality rugged boots for both men and
women should have a combination of the following materials:
Gore-Tex, Cordura, Thinsulate, and Vibram.

Gore-Tex is much like skin -- made up of tiny pores that allow
sweat or moisture to escape from the foot while stopping any
wetness from entering the boot. Crucial if your foot wear in wet
or cold weather since the Gore-Tex allows the boot to be
waterproof and absorbent. Cordura is a nylon material that is
unmatched by any other. It prevents boots from wear and tear,
puncture or ripping.

Thinsulate is lightweight insulation in quality boots. Its tough
which keeps warm air close to your feet. Vibram makes up the
outsole of rugged hikers boots. Created to complement the
purpose of your boot, meaning the sole can be manufactured
specifically for casual wear or for more strenuous activities
such as hiking or hunting.

Some of the most poplular namebrand hikers boots are Salomon,
Vasque, Nike, Timberland, Columbia, Hi Tek, Dunham, Danner,
Scarpa, Montrail, Tecnica, Mephisto, Raichie, Ecco, Garmont,
Nike, Adidas and more. Colors to choose from moss green, brown,
beige, tan, black, maroon, and many others stylish for boys and
girls, men and women.

Expensive prices don't mean their the best but when it comes to
buying a pair of durable and rugged boots you should pay a
little bit more than usual. You will be buying expert
craftsmanship as well as the materials discussed above. Online
stores often offer discounts once you determine what you need
you can always order your boots over the Internet and even get
them custom made.

Synthetic Upper Work Boots

S Joseph

The boots that can be purchased today for construction workers
and hikers alike are far different that those that were
available to past generations. In fact even just ten years ago,
the technology that existed in boots was far inferior to what we
have now says and article at http://www.safetboot.com .
Advancements in synthetic fabrics and sole materials have opened
the eyes of boot manufacturers to a wide variety of styles and
designs. Much of these advancements have been financed by growth
in the sporting and outdoor industry. These industries have seen
the high end of the market expand tremendously, as hikers and
climbers become more willing to pay top prices for high quality
boots and footwear. But luckily for the men and women who work
on building sites around the world, work boots have been able to
reap the rewards of expensive research and development.

New synthetic materials are far more durable than ever before
and in many cases, are much easier to produce and care for. All
types of boots, from steel toed boots to basic ankle high lace
up boots can now be bought at very low prices compared to their
leather counterparts and compete quite well in most areas.

The benefits of synthetic over leather can include:

- Lighter

- Easier to maintain

- Easier to dry if they become wet

- More breathable and

- Less likely to rot

On the other hand, for those workers who put a much higher price
on the protection of their feet, leather is often touted at a
superior material for boots. In fact for those who work on
factory floors with heavy machinery and hot or flammable
liquids, there may be no doubt in their mind that leather cannot
be surpassed http://www.workbootworld.com . Certainly there is
some wisdom in this mentality, although for others who work on
building sites outdoors, the desire for comfort, breathablility
and light work boots may draw people to synthetic alternatives.

Fall 2006 Fashion

Mary Bailis

Fashion week is over in New York City and fall styles have been
released. It always amazes me to be talking about fall styles
when spring has not even sprung yet. Here it is! Colors are dark
and neutral but accessories are sizzling and spruce up those
colors of the evening. There is plenty to keep from this winter
season and plenty to get rid of.

Let us start with colors. Think of nightfall when it comes to
fall color according to Pantone. The colors are very dark and
neutral. Black is always in, dominated the runways by far from
other colors. Brown known this season as Italian plum is still
big. You will see a touch of garnet, spicy orange and purple
drab. You may have to look hard, but they will be there. There
will also be doe, a taupe color and griffin, good old gray. The
color that tops all and is a must have for the season is deep
cobalt, otherwise known as navy. Navy is being paired with all
of the above including brown. You will see navy sweaters with
brown skirts. Black dominated but had a touch of one of the
colors above added to the outfit. There was plenty of play with
different shades of black; it is not just solid black this
season. Find it in shears, embroidery, and used in all different
ways.

So pack away your blacks and browns from this season and pull
them out in the fall. Add to your wardrobe plenty of navy and a
touch of gray. There will be a touch of animal prints. Leopard
is always a popular choice but zebra is the season's hottest
choice. Get a short zebra pencil skirt (along with a black one)
with a black or brown sweater or a jacket with faux fur trim;
add opaque black tights and knee high boots and you are on your
way to being in fashion for the fall. Remember a little animal
print goes a long way. You want it to accentuate your outfit not
overpower it.

Spring fashions have brought in a-line skirts, full skirts and
bubble skirts. These will be carried over into the fall so hold
on to them. The fall will add mini and short pencil skirts.
Black pencil skirts are a staple for your wardrobe. Shirt
dresses and sheaths are back and looking very sophisticated.
Dresses have been making a come back the past year and are still
riding on that trend. Grey trousers are a must have addition.
Pants waistlines are on the rise, still at the hips but not as
low as they were. Pair them up with a great fabric belt with a
fancy buckle to set it off. No more boot leg cut, skinny pants
and jeans are in. Hold on to the jackets, they are still a big
item. Velvet and suede jackets are hot as well as any with faux
fur collars. Cashmere coats trimmed in faux fur or shearling
will be a great luxury item.

Colors and clothing for fall are the styles of the night. So
drab you say? Not really, they are sexy, feminine and
sophisticated. Accessories and embellishments will set them
apart and make them exciting. This will be the year for fabulous
accessories that will bring those nighttime colors into the day.
Of course, they light up the evenings also.

Adult patterned wellies-are they here to stay?

Hannah Petty

Traditionally manufactured in green and brown, wellies for women
are now available in all kinds of colours and designs. From
pin-stripes and funky swirls to pretty flowers and polka dots,
ladies wellies are available in all of these styles and more,
previously reserved for children.

The history of the wellington boot has been just as colourful.
>From its humble beginnings as a man's high cut tasseled boot
(called the Hessian boot) in the eighteenth century, the
wellington boot was given its first makeover by The Duke of
Wellington in the early nineteenth century. The Duke had the
boots made with calf leather and changed the design to have them
fit better and closer around the calves. The resulting new
design was both comfortable and practical and became very
popular among the gentlemen of the time. This boot became known
as the wellington boot.

The second "wellie makeover" happened in America later on that
century. Hiram Hutchinson found Mr Goodyear ( of the tyres) and
decidied to make footwear from rubber. The news of watertight
and economical footwear for farmers spread fast and is still
very popular today.

Lady Diana was the last key figure to popularize wellies before
patterned wellies arrived...

Patterned wellies for women became popular in 2002 in Britain
and received the first media attention at the Glastonbury
Festival where they were worn by revellers in the mud. Since
then, many new companies have emerged and expanded so that today
there are a huge variety of styles and designs to choose from.

Fashion designers like Pucci, Ralph Lauren and DKNY put wellies
on the catwalk and so the revolution began.

So, still going strong in 2006. Are ladies patterned wellies
here to stay?

>From this muddy field, the answer looks like yes. Why would
people go back to wearing boring green or brown when presented
with so much colourful choice?

Patterned wellies was a niche in the market that has now been
filled. They simply weren't available before now, and I can only
see room for improvement. We are already seeing variations on
the design such as zips, laces, high heels, sporty soles and fur
linings.

Wellies are worn by practically everyone in Britain at some time
in their lives. It is compulsory for most children to own and
bring their own wellies to school and pre-school. They are worn
by gardeners, dog walkers, festival goers and thanks to
year-round wet weather in the British Isles they will always be
needed.

The creation of patterned and colourful wellies is yet another
example of how giving a practical product that everyone already
owns a colourful makeover, you can create a whole new set of
customers that will be back for more. Take saucepans for
example. Some clever people in the sixties decided their
saucepan sales needed a boost ( How many saucepans does one
need?) and brought out a pink range with sales going through the
roof. This very simple formula and a bit of imagination can be
applied to all necessary, practical products that have a long
life to drum up new sales. And this has certainly worked in the
wellie world!

Ultimately, wellies are a traditional and practical part of
British life and it looks as if patterned wellies for adults are
here to stay.

How Are Ugg Boots Are Made?

Geoff Sharp

Well we all know about this Ugg Boots fashion craze that's hit
the world don't we? Those ugly fluffy looking boots that
originate from Australia. But how is the humble Ugg Boot made?

The number one essential factor needed for manufacturing a
genuine Australian Ugg Boot is the material (the sheepskin
hide).

You may be aware that their are plenty of different ugg boots
styles popping up on the internet these days. If you do a few
basic searches on the net you will find yourself a cheap pair of
non-authentic uggs somewhere, but let me tell you 99% of ugg
boots sold on the internet are made in china. China made
Australian ugg boots? Hmm how doess that work? Anyway these
China boots are maufactured using inferior sheepskin internal
material and probably suede external material which doesn't
allow the boot to breath and leaves you with a smelly boot you
wont want to put back on after 4-5 wears.

These china made copies just dont stand up to the Genuine
Australian Made Boot. So one things for sure if your interested
in buying a pair of sheepskin ugg boots on the internet or
anywhere for that matters, dont try to save a dollor or two when
purchasing your boots?

If you want a boot that's warm in winter cool in summer then you
must insist on a boot manufactured with Genuine Australian
double faced Sheepskin preferbly Australian Merino Sheepskin.

One of the questions often asked about ugg boots is:

Do you have to really kill the poor sheep just to make a pair of
sheepskin boots?

The answer is NO. Not one sheep has to be slaughted to obtain
their hide and fleece. The sheepskins are shawn of the sheep
back and the sheep regrow their fleece just like humans do hair.
It's completely painless for the sheep. I've been told by a few
old school ugg manufaturers that the sheep actually like the
experience of feeling free and would prefer to be shawn rather
than have to carry a thick thick woolen coat around with them in
the hot Summer.

Once the sheepskin hides are taken from the sheep then the
process of preparing the hide for manufacturers and ensuring the
hides are up to export standard begins.

Woolskins are usually preserved with salt prior to being
processed by tanneries. At the tannery the skins are processed
in large vessels called paddles which vary in capacity from 3000
to 15000 litres. In contrast to hide processing, in woolskin
processing mechanical action is kept to a minimum in order to
minimise felting of the wool. Rotating blades on the paddles
move the skins slowly and gently, and processing is performed at
much higher float ratios (typically 20-35 litres of water per
skin) than are used in hide processing.

Typically it takes about 10 working days for the skins to be
tanned and finished ready to be cut into panels for ugg boots.

Step 1. Tanning/ Processing

Soaking (16 hours) - The skins are rinsed in cold water to
remove excess salt and dirt from the wool and pelt. Rehydration
(soaking) of the pelt takes place in a fresh cold water float
overnight.

Fleshing - The skins are fleshed using a fleshing machine which
removes excess fat and muscle tissue from the back of the skins.
This allows for more rapid and complete penetration of chemicals
in the later stages of processing, particularly during pickling
and tanning.

Scouring (30-45 minutes) - Surfactants are used at 38oC to
remove dirt and grease (lanolin) from the wool.

Pickling (16 hours) - Prior to tanning, the skins are pickled in
a solution containing acid and salt. The salt is added to
prevent swelling of the skins by the acid. The internal pH of
the skins is lowered to approximately 2.8-3.0, thereby preparing
the skins for penetration by the tanning agent.

Tanning (16 hours) - Tanning is generally achieved by using
chromium salts which form cross-links with the collagen,
stabilising the skin structure and preventing putrefaction. The
tanning step is conducted at about 25oC and pH 2.5-3.0 to allow
for penetration of the chrome. Once penetrated, the chrome is
fixed to the collagen by raising the pH to about 3.6 using
sodium bicarbonate, and heating to about 35-40oC. This step
raises the shrinkage temperature of the skin from about 60oC to
around 100oC.

Wool Dyeing / Fatliquoring (3-4 hours) - After tanning, the wool
may be dyed a variety of colours. Wool dyeing is performed at
about pH 4.5-6 and at 60-65oC, "Pelt reserve agents" being added
to prevent the wool dye staining the pelt. After the dye is
exhausted, the pH is lowered to about 4.0 to fix the dyes to the
wool, and fatliquor is added to the bath. Fatliquors are
emulsified oils which are used in leather manufacture to
lubricate the collagen fibres, allowing them to move freely when
the skin is dried, thereby imparting softness to the skin.

Drying (4-24 hours) - Once tanned and wool dyed, the skins are
then dried in heated forced-air dryers by "toggling" the skins
to a frame. Drying is conducted at temperatures of 50-80oC.

Drycleaning (4-24 hours) - The dried skins are "drycleaned" in
either white spirit (a high-boiling petroleum fraction) or
perchloroethylene. The drycleaning removes the natural fat and
grease present within the skins.

Pelt Dyeing / Syntanning - Once the pelt grease is removed, the
skins are returned to the paddle for pelt dyeing. This step is
performed at low temperature (less than 30oC) in order to
minimise staining of the wool by the pelt dye. After pelt
dyeing, the skins are "syntanned" using synthetic tanning agents
in order to give the pelts added fullness and firmness. The
skins are then redried.

Step 2. Finishing

Once all the tanning and processing steps have been completed,
the skins are ready for final finishing prior to being used in
ugg boot manufacture.

Staking - After "conditioning" the skins to approximately 20%
moisture content, the skins are staked in a staking machine.
This softens and stretches the skin pelt, and puts a "nap" on
the pelt surface.

Combing / Ironing / Clipping - The wool is combed in a combing
machine to remove tangles and any burrs or grass seeds present
in the wool. An iron (a hot, 150oC revolving cylinder)
straightens the wool, removing the natural wool crimp. Finally,
a cylinder clipping machine is used to clip the wool pile to the
desired length, usually about 12-15 mm.

Step 3. Manufacturing

Panels are cut from the skins using a "clicking press". Once
cut, the panels are sewn together using industrial sewing
machines, then the sole is glued to the boot. Once this is done,
the boots are ready for sale!

Ugg Boots for Kids

Brian Fong

Children are more in tune to today’s marketing mania than most
parents realize. The producers of television and radio stations
that are geared towards children select and run advertisements
that are especially created to attract the attention of this
younger audience. Today’s children are more capable of impacting
the purchasing decisions of their parents than ever before.
Whether it is food, entertainment, or fashion children seem to
know what they want and they have no problem letting their
parents know, too. Whether they have seen them in the mall, on
the Internet, being worn by their favorite music icon or heard
about them on the radio, many of today’s fashion-conscious
children want their own pair of child ugg boot.

Children see their parents wearing ugg boots. They hear their
parents boast of the boot’s comfort. They are dazzled by the
multitude of color and style options that are available. They
know that with a little research they too can find a child ugg
boot in their size. But what these children do not know is how
they can get their parents to open up their wallets and fork
over the sizeable chunk of money that is necessary to make this
purchase. If the children are savvy, they will present their
case in a way that appeals to the adults.

Children should make an effort to present to their parents a
summary of the benefits that a child ugg boot has to offer. A
proper fit and solid construction are two features of this style
of boot that will appeal to most parents making this a good
starting point for the conversation. And besides the benefits,
child ugg boots are a practical choice in footwear and parents
can really relate to things that are practical.

Children play hard and many of them are on their feet for a good
part of each day. To support all this activity they need shoes
and boots that fit properly. A child ugg boot will do just that.
A good pair of boots will be made from genuine Australian sheep
skin. This type of material will provide a child with hours upon
hours of sheer comfort. A proper fit will be one that is snug
but not too tight. The sheep skin will loosen and stretch with
wear, and in a short while, the boots will be fitting the feet
like a glove.

A child ugg boot is also a well-made boot. When shopping,
parents should look for boots that have been hand stitched.
Children play hard and a boot that is carefully stitched
together will last longer. In addition, many of styles that have
been created for children will have slip-proof soles and
reinforced toes. Check out the special deals here.

One very important benefit of a child ugg boot is that the boots
can be worn year-round. The sheep skin will help to keep the
child’s feet warm during the colder months and will even help
keep the feet cool in warmer temperatures. Make sure that the
label on the boot states that they are made from genuine sheep
skin. If the boots are made using an imitation material, the
child’s feet will end up being hot and sweaty and likely will
have an unpleasant odor.

To summarize, a child ugg boot should fit snugly, but not too
tightly. Parents should look for a label that states that the
boots are made from genuine Australian sheep skin. Hand
stitching, soles made from hard rubber and reinforced toes will
help the boots endure even the most active of children. So
parents, what are you waiting for?

Why You Need Turf Cleats!

Udo Vieth

f you take part in any activity where you may be playing on
lawn and Astroturf, you will want to purchase two separate pairs
of cleats. A bunch of people are not conscious of the reality
that you will not want to put on the same cleats on Astroturf
that you would wear on grass. Turf cleats have their own
purpose, and are supposed to be worn when competing on Astroturf
only.

If you don't have precise particulars about Footwear, then you
might make a terrible choice on the theme. Don't allow that
happen: keep reading.

The major benefit of using turf cleats as opposed to normal
cleats when playing on Astroturf is the reality that they will
help you to improved grip the playing surface. When you are
competing on grass, there is a major quantity of dirt underneath
the surface. This means that you will be capable to get a good
grip if you are using the suitable sized spike. But turf cleats
are designed to increase traction on Astroturf, a surface that
does not have a big amount of matter below it.

Turf cleats will in addition be more hard-wearing when worn on
the correct surface. This is extremely significant throughout
the course of the match, since frequently you will not have
sufficient downtime where you can continually swap out cleats.
By purchasing a high-quality pair of cleats in the first place,
you will be able to make sure that you can make it through the
game with a negligible quantity of problems.

These cleats can be bought in a number of dissimilar places. But
before you venture out to make a acquisition, you may want to
have a word with your coach about what kind of cleat you
require. They will be capable to point you towards the cleats
that are best for your playing surface, whilst also providing
you with a high level of safety.

If you believe that you may have to play on Astroturf sometime
in the near future, you may desire to invest in a pair of turf
cleats.

Now that wasn't hard at all, was it? And you've earned a wealth
of knowledge, just from taking some time to study an expert's
word on Footwear.

Managing Foot Pain

H. A. Melton

In this ever-changing world of ours there are some things that
never change. Such as, "when your feet hurt, you hurt all over!"
How true this is. When it hurts to walk, your lifestyle begins
to diminish. You arrive home in the evening totally exhausted.
Your heels hurt or the balls of your feet ache, your feet throb,
itch, or burn. You can suffer ankle pain, knee pain, and, in
some cases even begin to realize hip and back pain. Truly, when
your feet hurt, you hurt all over.

Needless to say, there are a host of medical conditions that
cause foot pain. Hence, Podiatrists! To name a few just consider
Morton's Neuroma; Plantar Fasciitis; Heel Spurs; Fibermyalgia;
Corns; Calluses; Gout and even Diabetes. All of these can impact
the way you walk. Also, when you consider the foot is comprised
of twenty-six bones (too many moving parts) and the job our feet
are tasked with on a daily basis, the old adage of, "if
something can go wrong, it will", becomes reality. All too often
we take our feet for granted and eventually they get even.

How many of you have bought shoes at your local Mega-mart? For
a small amount of money you're in style but destroying your
feet. Those shoes are not made for comfort but rather, for mere
profit. For a small amount of cash, we can be stylish never
realizing the damage being done to our feet. Most never consider
comfort as right now, their feet don't hurt. Rest assured though
that bad shoes will eventually cause chronic foot pain!

In reality, we are designed to walk in bare feet on soft
ground. However, civilization has taught us to do exactly the
opposite. We continually walk on hard surfaces wearing improper
footwear for long periods of time allowing the foot to lose its
natural posture and conditioning. This causes the foot to
settle, which in turn adversely affects the alignment of the
feet, legs and over time even the entire spinal column can be
affected.

As for me, I began to suffer severe foot pain in my mid 50's.
It was terrible! Here I am rapidly approaching retirement and
could not bear to be on my feet for more than an hour. Believe
me; my employer was not impressed, as my job required that I be
on my feet constantly. The damage was done. My feet hurt and no
matter what I did nothing seemed to work. When the day was done,
all I could do was kick off my shoes and rest my feet on the
foot-stool. I couldn't walk, go to the store, push the
lawn-mower, or play with the grandkids..., nothing! In all
actualities, I was a handicap.

That is until one day I happened onto Happy Feet Therapeutic
Massaging Insoles. Our hometown hosted a Street Festival and we
decided to go. My wife understood that she would drop me off at
the main entrance, park the car and I would be waiting on the
first park bench available. The rest of the family would then
enjoy the festivities while I sat it out.

One of the vendors in attendance that day was an independent
Happy Feet Representative. Happy Feet Therapeutic Massaging
Insoles, as it was explained to me, was a shoe insert that
contained 100% pure glycerin and guaranteed to change the way I
walked. The dealer explained this device would massage the
bottoms of my feet, cushion my heels, cushion the balls of my
feet, improve circulation and help stop my burning feet, leg
cramps, inflammation, swelling of the feet and ankles, correct
my alignment and proclaimed his product to be the greatest thing
since canned peanut butter. "Yeah right," I said to myself. But
as fate would have it, I relented and agreed to try them.

Now, I'm not going to exaggerate here, but it was amazing!
Those insoles were absolutely amazing! I had never felt such
immediate relief as when I test walked those insoles. Those
things really worked! I was impressed to say the least. Needless
to say I bought a pair and have been wearing them since. In
fact, when I finally retired I became an Independent Happy Feet
Distributor myself and now spend my time telling others of the
readily available relief with Happy Feet Therapeutic Massaging
Insoles.

Once into the business I have come to realize that at least 50%
of the American Population suffers from foot pain. Foot pain
affects all age groups and chronic foot pain is considered by
some to be at epidemic levels often, because we have purchased
style in place of practicality.

In conclusion, there is an effective and inexpensive way to
relieve the stress of foot pain. Happy Feet Therapeutic
Massaging Insoles are unconditionally guaranteed for six months,
even if you step on a nail or your pet chews them up. They are
proudly made in the USA, washable and available from Women's
size 5 through Men's 16. If you suffer foot pain you need to
consider Happy Feet Therapeutic Massaging Insoles. They will
literally change the way you walk. These things really work!

Hard Bodies And Toe Fungi

Jason Murphy

Most guys want better bodies. Specifically, bodies that ripple
with muscle and physiques that rival those of superheroes. It's
easy with the many gyms and fitness centers that have sprouted
everywhere. But, there are also things that these gyms give for
free. These gyms are breeding grounds for different fungi that
cause a variety of toe disease. The sweaty, humid, and damp
environment encourages the growth of every known specie of toe
fungus. No one is safe, not even the most hard-bodied studs.

Contacting these fungi is not a walk in the park. Trust me, you
want to avoid being a fungi breeding ground. Even though the
ladies dig your muscles, toe infection is sure to send them
running in the opposite direction. Why? Because the symptoms of
toe fungal infections are really bad especially for someone with
good vision and keen sense of smell. Yep, these lesions, rashes,
and pus formed by these fungi are unsightly and downright icky.
Think your feet smell funky after a workout? Multiply the stench
by ten and throw in a dead rat -- that's how bad your feet will
smell with fungal growth. No sane person will play footsie with
someone who has a diseased toe nail.

Luckily for you gym fans, there are several ways to avoid toe
fungi without using bubble suits. These are simple additions to
your active lifestyle that won't cramp your workout routine.
Damp places keep fungi happy so before hitting the gym, apply
foot powder between your toes. This will keep them dry even when
you're sweating it out on the treadmill. Second, wear clean and
proper footwear. Change your socks daily and use at least two
pairs of trainers alternately. This gives your shoes time to dry
out. Third, change footwear immediately after working out. Wear
flipflops to give your feet time to air out. Fourth, hit the
showers and walk around locker rooms wearing your flipflops.
Shower and locker rooms are high-risk fungi areas, with all
those steam and sweaty socks lying around. These fungi are
contagious and don't die easily. If there's even one of your gym
buddies who have fungal infection, you are definitely at risk.
Just imagine every inch of the bathroom floor covered in fungi.
Lastly, don't wear your trainers after bathing. Instead, dry
your flipflops and wear them. Your shoes are still sweaty and
damp, which make them perfect for breeding fungi.

Prevent toe disease by following these simple tips. You don't
want to waste all those efforts to bulk up. Trust me, you will
feel better in your new body if you don't have to worry about
hiding toe fungus infections.

How To Sew Lined Shoe Bags For Golf, Tennis, Bowling, Gym, Dance

Marian Lewis

Sewing shoe bags for the guys or gals in your life is a great
gift idea. No matter what sport or hobby they enjoy or where
they travel. . .far away or to the gym, shoe bags or drawstring
bags come in handy.

The how to sew sewing instructions are for a lined drawstring
shoe bag.

You are the designer. You can decide the purpose, fabric, design
and size of your drawstring bag. Here are some suggestions.

Fabrics

Use whatever fabric suits your fancy. About 1/2 yard of fabric
makes one shoe bag.

Sturdier fabrics like denim, canvas, slipcover fabric, fake
suede, corduroy, etc. work well for sturdier shoes.

Fine fabrics like velour, velvet, cottons, flannels, etc. are
good for dressier shoes.

Think about satin or silk for lingerie bags or jewelry bags. Or
use mesh or terry for the beach or laundry bags.

Lining is optional. But, if you line the bags, choose a
compatible lining fabric that won't tear easily especially for
the sturdier shoes. Sometimes the same fabric is the best
lining. The instructions here are for a lined drawstring bag.

You may want to use washable fabrics so you can launder the bags
later.

Preshrink all fabrics before cutting.

Drawstrings

Use a pair of 36 inch long decorative shoe laces or leather
laces for each bag or heavy cord or sew your own fabric or fake
suede drawstrings. Ribbon also works.

Sizes

Sew a test bag to see if the dimensions are right for you.

Cut one bag with the following suggested dimensions. Place the
shoe inside and check to see if it fits well. Add or subtract
from the length or width to adjust for whatever shoe or item
that you have.

Suggested Sizes

For 2 golf shoe bags, cut 4 pieces of fabric 20 inches long and
11 inches wide. Cut 4 pieces of lining 19 inches long and 10-1/2
inches wide.

Note: Cut an extra drawstring bag for a golf ball bag.

Two bowling shoes will fit into one shoe bag. Cut 2 pieces of
fabric 20 inches long and 11 inches wide. Cut 2 lining 19 inches
long and 10-1/2 inches wide.

One bag may also hold 2 tennis shoes or 2 ladies dress shoes.

Gym shoes vary in size. For extra large or small shoes, measure
around the shoe and adjust the size of the fabric plus seam
allowances to accommodate the size of the shoe.

How To Sew Sewing Technique

Decorate the Shoe Bag

Make the drawstring bag unique with a special design or emblem.
Think about monogramming the bags or adding a sport motif
applique or embroidery design prior to stitching. Place the
design about 3 inches from the bottom in the center of one of
the 20 x 11 pieces.

After you trim the bag, place 2 bag pieces right sides together.

Measure and make a mark 5 inches down from the top of the bag on
both sides.

Stitch 1/2 inch seam around bag starting and stopping at this 5
inch mark. Do not back stitch. For the first and last inch, use
short stitches.

Repeat stitching as above for the lining.

Press all seams open on both bag and the lining.

Press under 1/2 inch on the unstitched 5 inch bag side edges.
Fuse or stitch to hold.

Do the same for the lining.

Turn the bag right side out.

Turn the lining right side out.

Machine stitch 1/2" at the bottom of the lining as if you were
making a French seam. This creates a strong edge.

Turn the lining wrong side out.

Slip the lining down into the bag so that the top edge of the
lining is 1/2 inch below the the top edge of the bag.

Fold the top edge of the front of the bag down 1/2 inch over the
lining.

Press this fold to make a crease.

Now, bring the top folded pressed edge of the bag down to meet
the side edges at the bottom of the opening.

Pin to hold and stitch close to this fold edge.

To make the casing, stitch 1" above the previous stitching.

Repeat for the back side of the bag.

Insert Drawstrings

Use a safety pin or bodkin to help slide the drawstrings through
the casings.

Slide one drawstring through the casing of the bag back and
front having ends on the same side of the bag.

Insert the other drawstring starting at the other side of the
bag, sliding through the casing of the bag back and front having
ends on that side of the bag.

Tie the ends of the drawstrings together.

That completes the lined drawstring shoe bag.

Note: If the shoe bag is wide enough for two shoes, you may want
to stitch up the center of the bag from the bottom up to (but do
not include) the casing through all the layers to create
separate compartments for each shoe to help keep them from
scuffing.

Pin before stitching and test to see if there is enough room for
the shoes. If not, you may want to increase the width of your
shoe bag.

Sew bags any size for anything. Everybody needs a bag for
something. Kids love treasure bags. Make big bags and little
bags. Give drawstring bags to family and friends for Fathers'
Day, birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, etc. Enjoy sewing bags!

It just makes sense!

Aerobic Shoes To Protect Your Feet While Training

Jenny Riley

Everyday people express worries over their weight problems, and
they talk about adopting various techniques such as proper
diets, and exercise regimes to combat the menace.

But it is very surprising that when people talk about workouts,
they relegate aerobic shoes, which is an integral part of any
exercise program into the background.

Daily, discussions are centered on proper hydration of the body,
and other myriads of exercise tips, but no mention of gym shoes
is ever made.

We all know that footwear is a non issue for anyone taking
aerobic lessons, because all the aerobic exercises will be done
on a padded mat, so the use of shoes is frowned upon. This is
normally enforced to preserve the mat.

All other aerobic exercises, with the exception of swimming and
a few others, the use of the right aerobic shoes is a
prerequisite for attending any session.

The kind of aerobic shoes to be donned depend on the nature of
the workout. Accomplish runners need to have a pair of running
shoes.

These forms of footwear are lighter compared to other types, and
have a concentration of padding where necessary. These cannot be
used for other activities like for playing tennis, for instance,
because they offer virtually no lateral ankle support.

Games like tennis or others that require more than just straight
line movements needs separate class of aerobic shoes known as
cross trainers or tennis shoes.

Though both type of aerobic shoes described are basically the
modern version of gym shoe, they traditionally have lots of
paddings, but offer a low top to ensure flexibility and easy
movement at the ankle.

Basketball players require more rugged and larger aerobic shoes
to provide adequate cover the ankle. These types of footwear are
known as high tops, perhaps because they come all the way to the
ankle.

They are the most suited for the game because it involves
players jumping high, bursting into sudden sprints in almost any
direction, and generally doing several acts that are potentially
dangerous and damage the ankle.

The footwear also protect players from injuries more effectively
than any other type of aerobic shoes, that is the reason why a
greater percentage of basketball players using them. They are
certainly not suited for the kind of sprints in tennis, and are
rarely worn by tennis players.

And if you are a cross country runner, you belong to a
completely different sphere, so you need different aerobic shoes
altogether.

This will be almost the combination of tennis shoes and light
hiking boots, usually with a light build and lots of traction
beneath it. I guess this should be a story for another day.

Benefits of Ugg Sheep Skin Boot

Brian Fong

You’ve likely heard about or seen the impact that the ugg sheep
skin boot has made in the world of fashion recently. It’s one
thing for the boot to be trendy, but what about beneficial? When
people think of boots, they do not always think of them in terms
of the benefits that the boots offer. Most people need boots for
the snow, so any boot that is waterproof generally will be
suitable. But boots do have benefits, including the ugg sheep
skin boot , and the benefits of this boot go far beyond their
good looks.

These boots are so comfortable they can be worn all the time in
all types of weather. If made from genuine sheep skin, they
likely will last a long time making their purchase a good
investment. Best of all, with so many styles currently
available, there is sure to be an ugg sheep skin boot to fit
everyone’s tastes and budget.

The ugg sheep skin boot is a practical boot. The sheep skin
helps keep feet warm during the cold winter months, and cool
during the warm summer months. The comfortable and soft sheep
skin fits like a glove and acts like a second skin, helping to
maintain the body’s temperature. In fact, these boots can keep
feet warm even in temperatures as low as -30ºF. Plus, the wool
has natural wicking properties which help draw moisture away
from the skin, and this is what helps to keep the skin dry.
Finally, a person’s feet should not smell after wearing these
boots. The wool fleece helps the air inside the boot to
circulate which allows the foot to breathe. Of course, there is
no guarantee on this claim!

The ugg sheep skin boot, if properly cared for, will last for
many years, making it a good investment. The soft skin is
actually leather and as such, the boot is not waterproof. A
water-repellant product can be applied to the boot, but even
this will not make the boot waterproof. The boot can be cleaned
but not by immersing it into water. The boots must be cleaned by
hand, using a cleaning product that is designed for use on sheep
skin and dried naturally.

One feature of the ugg sheep skin boot that makes it such a
popular choice in footwear can also cause the boot to become
damaged. That feature is its soft sheep skin. These
delicate-skinned boots should never be worn anywhere you’re
likely to encounter things that can damage or puncture the
boot’s soft skin, like on a hiking trip. So to ensure the boots
live a long life, be sure to properly treat and care for them.

The ugg sheep skin boot is available in many different styles
and sizes making this boot the perfect choice for all tastes.
These boots are available in sizes for the entire family,
including infants, children, men and women. Some ugg sheep skin
boot styles include tall boots, and short boots, slipper-style,
and boots with extra reinforcements, and much, much more. And
then there are the colors – black, tan, pink, blue, purple, red,
sand and more arriving in stores every day. The best quality
boots are made from genuine sheep skin but imitation boots are
everywhere.

Just remember, the better the quality, the higher the price. But
when it comes to the Ugg sheep skin boot , keep in mind that
you’re getting far more than just good looks; you’re making a
sound investment.

Are Sneakers a Fashion No-no in Paris?

Phil Chavanne

Are American sneakers a fashion don't in Paris? The Senior
Editor of online magazine Paris Eiffel Tower News addresses the
issue from a bilateral viewpoint.

I can't count the number of times travelers who asked me:
'Should I wear sneakers in Paris?' and other variations of the
same question. American tourists especially are concerned about
'not fitting in' with inappropriate shoes.

That attitude is remarkable indeed. Dressing so as not to shock
the sensitivity of the locals: how much more considerate can you
get? I can only give kudos to all of you who ever asked the
question or thought about it!

Paris, French fashion, sneakers

Paris-bound tourists are often of the opinion that French women
are die-hard fashion victims. This claim is definitely
exaggerated, though access to stylish clothing is heavily
facilitated in Paris where women magazines such as 'Elle' and
'Figaro Madame' dictate what's fashionable and what's not.

In my humble opinion, perennial tastes look very much alike in
Paris and New York City. Globalization tends to homogenize
fashion, making work-a-day wear similar in large cities.

No matter, the sneaker concern remains valid. Sneakers are now
such a commodity in the US, how is it in Paris?

The generally accepted business dress code in France usually
bars sneakers from entering the corporate environment, except
for low-level positions. Thus the Parisian woman wears
good-looking city shoes to go to work, unless the business which
employs her cultivates a sporty image in which sneakers find a
natural home.

Yet sneakers have become design icons in their own right.
Adidas, Puma and Nike each have their own Parisian stores, and
crank out more models a convincing fashion-victim could easily
shake credit cards at. Adidas recently teamed with iconic
fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto to create Y-3, a new line of
dress-up sneakers. Stella McCartney also has her own Adidas line.

What major difference in shoe-attitude could we identify between
American and French she-consumers? The latter will wear sneakers
as design items, not as workaday shoes. Sneakers won't be bought
for comfort, but will find an easy way into a tight purse when
they compliment dress-down pants and make their owner look good.
The She-Parisian loves sneakers which make her feet look thin,
small, and classy.

A mere glance at the types of sneakers most commonly seen on
women's feet in Paris is telling: you won't see any wide, cushy,
comfy-looking, plain vanilla sneakers. You will see small,
thin-looking, flat-sole, designer sneakers.

For the same reasons, a pair of Stephane Kelian or Robert
Clergerie shoes will almost always be favored over a pair of
good-looking Pumas. Shoes are a fashion statement, and the more
understated it is, the better.

That's another major difference between French and American
women. Understatement is a cardinal rule in French fashion.
Anything that is too visible is considered garish. This is why
the little black dress is such a fashion icon, and why Audrey
Hepburn will always be remembered as The Quintessential
Fashionable American Woman.

Tourists and sneakers

Does all this mean you can't wear sneakers when you travel to
Paris? Of course not!

First of all, sneakers can be comfortable walking shoes. And
walk you will, in Paris. The very best way to discover the city
is to walk along its streets. Wearing shoes in which you feel
comfortable walking 10 miles a day at a leisurely pace is a
majorly important decision for the general mood of your stay in
the French capital.

Do not back off from wearing sneakers if these are your best
walking shoes. And if you have even better walking shoes, pack
them, even if they make you look like you are on a trekking trip!

Frankly, you should not ask yourself this question. Who cares
about how you look in the street? Don't be self-conscious, just
be comfortable in your shoes. You are a visitor, these are your
vacations, this is your very own time! Jeans and sneakers are
international. People won't be offended by your looks. Unless
you dress in pink tops and electric blue pants, with golden
sneakers and Jackie-O shades, nobody around will have any second
thoughts about your attire.

And if they ever notice your jeans, LL Bean trekking shoes, and
Patagonia jacket, well, push come to shove, they might think
you're American. And so what? In all likelihood they will
appreciate your visiting Paris.

Dining out in sneakers

Does it mean you can wear sneakers everywhere, on any and every
occasion? Not so.

For instance, can you have dinner in a restaurant shoed with
your brand-new white sneakers?

For the sake of it, let's imagine you are strolling along in
your Levi's jeans and Lands End boots. It's now dinner time, you
are hungry, and scanning the landscape looking for a promising
restaurant. There is it! The menu displayed outside is
appetizing, prices are within your comfort zone, the place is
not so crowded... Ah, but guests are dressed smartly. Will they
let you in? Will you fit in?

I have yet to see a door sign indicating 'No Sneakers Allowed'
in Paris. Some high-brow places may expertly leave you at bay:
"Do you have a reservation? Sorry, we are full tonight". But
beside those rare snobbish places, no restaurant will refuse to
seat you because you wear casual sneakers.

Therefore the right question is not 'Will I be allowed in?', but
'Will I feel comfortable entering a dressy place in sneakers?' I
venture that you probably would not. And the problem is that
being self-conscious is a surefire way to kill your meal. Your
attention should be in your plate and on your food, not on your
shoes and garb.

My practical rule is 'Dress according to the lieu'. If you
intend to dine out at expensive, dressy restaurants when you are
in Paris, just bring your Pradas. Better yet: pay a visit to
Stephane Kelian's and Robert Clergerie's boutiques in Paris, and
buy yourself gorgeous-looking footwear by these Parisian
designers.

Other places and sneakers

There are other places where sneakers just won't cut it.

The Opera House is definitely one of them. But who would be so
foolish as not to dress up for opera night? The sneaker point is
moot.

What about a cabaret? I would say it is much better to dress up
when you have dinner at a cabaret like 'Moulin Rouge', 'Lido',
and 'Paradis Latin'. Though only the stage is well lit in these
places, the fact is people around you will usually be dressed
up. You will feel much more comfortable in some more formal wear.

How about the boats on the Seine? If you are boarding a boat for
a dinner cruise, don't wear sneakers. This is a romantic
experience, you will want to make the most of it. An evening
dress is 'de rigueur'. On the other hand, if you simply want to
cruise up and down the stream, sneakers are fine.

Museums? Forget style, wear very comfortable shoes. Nobody will
look at your shoes, art is on the walls. But walking down the
Louvre galleries is a tiring experience: so much too see, so
many galleries, so slow the pace. The good doctor's advice: go
with cushion and comfort.

Art gallery 'vernissages'? Style is your cue. Art galleries are
small, vernissage evenings are short. Evening dress, black
preferably, nothing flashy, and good-looking design shoes. No
sneakers.

Wrapping up

Dress for the place you go to. If you are unsure about the dress
code, you may call in advance to get appraised of it. Pack a
dressy pair of shoes, or buy one when you are in Paris. Bring a
discreet, understated evening dress.

But don't back away from sneakers for other not-so-formal
occasions. Wear them shamelessly in the street. You will blend
just fine if you harbor a pair of jeans and a pair of sneakers.
Nike is an American brand, and it is very popular in France.
Levi's, Diesel, and Calvin Klein are American brands, and they
rule the French jeans scene too. In fact, I can't quite think of
any domain in France where American culture did not leave a mark
-- except maybe cuisine.

So be comfortable in your sneakers, and enjoy the view.

Is online shopping the way to go?

Katy Lassetter http://www.covergirlcarinsurance.co.uk

When you're looking for a last minute holiday deal, the perfect
gift for a loved one or when that time comes to renew your motor
insurance policy, it is well-worth taking the time to shop
around. Specifically, for a woman, car insurance is available at
some fantastic rates but such bargains can take some seeking out.

Generally speaking, us girls are renowned for our love of
shopping. Most of us have a keen eye for the latest fashions,
live for bargains and adore spending money, especially if it's
not ours!

However, for some the thought of hitting the shops is sheer
hell. Battling with the weekend crowds and traipsing up and down
the high street for hours on end looking for the perfect outfit,
at the perfect price, in the perfect size is not everyone's idea
of fun.

You can look forward to the joy of standing in a lengthy cue for
hot, sticky fitting rooms where you have to convince an
unrelenting member of staff to allow you to take in more than
four items. Once you've messed up your hair and make- up while
trying on every item twice and made the definitive style
decision you're forced to join yet another cue so that you can
pay for your purchase then start all over again in the next
shop. Bliss!

Online shopping - The pros and cons But, with the rising
phenomenon that is internet shopping our consumer woes could be
behind us. Shopping can once again be a relaxing experience and
finding that Gucci bag at a bargain price or a mega cheap car
insurance policy is the definition of ultimate satisfaction.

When shopping via the web, you have the option of purchasing
from your desk in your lunch break or kicking back with your
laptop and browsing the net from the comfort of your favourite
arm chair. That definitely beats wasting shoe leather and
putting the unnecessary strain of heavy bags on your arms.

However, there are some drawbacks when it comes to online
shopping, mainly relating to consumer frustration.
Unfortunately, we are a culture consumed by rage. With road rage
and trolley rage becoming daily occurrences in the UK it was
only a matter of time before we also acquired web rage. It seems
that our impatience is magnified when shopping online as we
expect it to be quicker and we become easily frustrated with
website performance and anxious at the sheer volume of websites
we are faced to choose from.

Web rage The Regional eCommerce study undertaken across the UK
by web testing specialist SciVisum has revealed some interesting
figures regarding online shopping habits. It was found that
three quarters of all Brits are now shopping online, spending an
average of £89 per month. One in ten even admitted they would
spend £5,000 or more on a single transaction.

The majority of people surveyed (57%) stated that the
predominant reason for shopping online was that is quick.
However, 78% of online shoppers complained that frustration with
website performance has caused them to reach for their
computer's off switch. Also, one in three online shoppers refuse
to allow even their favourite websites more than a second
chance, before clicking to the competition or traipsing back
along the high street.

Handy websites Another downside when it comes to shopping on the
internet is that there is just too much choice. Unless you know
exactly what you're looking for and precisely where you can find
it the range of goods and services can be quite overwhelming and
extremely frustrating. This is where websites like confused.com
and Haggle4me can come in handy.

Confused.com compares quotations from all the leading motor
insurance providers so that you can view some of the cheapest
car insurance deals online. If you're a woman, car insurance at
a fantastic rate is easily accessible and websites that offer a
comparison service give you the greatest chance of finding the
best online car insurance premium.

Haggle4me offers online shoppers an alternative way of gaining
the best online bargains. The concept of this website is very
straightforward, you simply enter the best price you have found
for the product you're looking for and visitors to the website
search for a better price.

For example, if you found a pair of GHD hair straightners for
£100 you would enter this into the system. A visitor to the
website may then use their online contacts to track down a pair
costing just £50. This would mean that you make a saving of £50.

As you've saved at least £20 you would then be expected to pay
the haggler a fifth of the saving for their efforts, in this
case £10. They would then pay a quarter of their fee to the
website, in this case £2.50. So, everyone's a winner. Visit
www.haggle4me.com.

Online shopping incentives However, shopping via the internet
has its rewards and online shopping clubs, like Mrs Cashback,
are now offering cashback for purchases made via their websites.

Favourite high street brands such as Boots, Dixons and Thompson
holidays are participating in this online reward scheme. Mrs
Cashback is also giving customers 3% back on anything bought
from M&S and 2% on goods from Tesco. You can even receive money
back when shopping online at more exclusive stores like John
Lewis and Harrods.

Registration requires a fee of £29.95 which you will gain back
in no time if you're a regular online shopper. On registering,
an online account will be set up into which any cashback you
receive will be paid.

Cashback payments are issued monthly (30 days in arrears) once
your account has accrued £25.00 and any sums less than this are
carried forward to the next month.

This suggests that carrying out everyday tasks such as buying
your groceries or doing something as menial as seeking out a
cheap car insurance rate online could have additional financial
benefits. For details on how to register and receive online
rewards visit www.mrscashback.com.

With 75% of the British public already dabbling in the delights
of online shopping it seems that it is no longer such an
outlandish, futuristic phenomenon.

While internet shopping can induce frustration, time and money
saving initiatives, such as online car insurance comparison
services, contribute to making the online buying experience a
satisfying one.

A Jump Out Of Skins

Karishma Roy

Material made out of the tanning of hides, pelts and skins, of
animals, are known as leathers. Leathers with the furs still
attached are called furs. This together with wood formed the
basis of much ancient technology.

There are various forms. Some of the forms are vegetable-tanned,
alum-tanned, rawhide, boiled, chrome-tanned, and brain-tanned,
are mainly of three types namely Full-Grain, Corrected-Grain,
and Suede.

The Full-Grain type are made from the finest raw material, are
clean natural hides. The natural state allows strength and
durability. The ability to breathe, and furnish with comfort are
features of this form. The natural Full-Grain surface wears
better. Furniture and foot wear are made from Full Grain.

Corrected-Grains are fuzzy on one side and smooth on the other.
Hides made from inferior quality raw materials have an
artificial grain applied. Suedes are an interior split of the
hide, fuzzy on both sides, and are less durable.

Other uncommon forms include Patent, Shagreen and Buckskin.
Glossy hides are known as Patent. The modern patent usually has
a plastic coating.

The rough and grainy types are known as Shagreen and were
formerly made from the back of a horse, or that of a wild ass.
Skins of sharks and rays are now common in the making of
Shagreen.

The tawing technique uses animal brains or other fatty materials
to alter hides. Supple suede-like hides are usually smoked
heavily, and are known as Buckskin.

Animal skins and hides commonly used in the manufacture of
briefcases, wallets and luggage, are made from Belting, and Napa.

Beltings are full grain animal skins that were formerly used as
pulley belts and in other machinery. Found on the surface of
briefcases, portfolios, and wallets, Beltings have a thick, firm
feel, and smooth finish. Napas or Nappas are extremely soft and
supple, and are commonly found in higher quality wallets, and
other applications.

Bicast and Bonded are not true leathers, but contain similar
material. Bicast contains some amount of animal skin. The Bonded
type are a combination of ninety percent to hundred percent
fibers bonded together with latex binders.

Most leathers are made out of cowhide. Lambskins are used for
soft materials in expensive apparels. Kangaroo hides are also
used to make strong but flexible motorcycle gloves.
Motorcyclists favor lightweight Kangaroo skin.

Exotic skins are considered beautiful. Certain snakes and
crocodiles continue to be hunted for the exotic. At a certain
point in time farming of ostriches for feathers became popular
and thus the availability of Ostrich skin.

Rugged occupations, cowboys, and leather clad aviators have been
synonymous. With the invention of motorcycles, heavy animal skin
jackets and trousers to protect the body from road rash came
about to be used.

Footwear, baggage, and other accessories are commonly used.
Knife cases, guitar straps, gloves, and coasters are also
common. Purses and wallets, business card holders, and credit
card holders are indeed popular. Portfolio bags, brief cases,
executive duffle bags, backpacks, and tote bags are other
important things today. Gifts of accessories are also not
uncommon.

Some sections of society particularly animal rights activist are
against the use of leather. This section considers the wearing
of skins as not only unnecessary but also vulgar. Yet the use
continues.

People for the ethical Treatment of Animals have urged the
British high commissioner to end the killing of Canadian black
bears for the headpieces of Royal Guards headpieces and to
switch to faux fur instead. Canadian rocker Peaches wants Canada
to can the bloody seal hunt. Ralph Lauren has announced a
decision to stop using fur in any apparel or home collections.

A synthetic form made out of plastic called Pleather or plastic
leather has now found uses as an inexpensive substitute. Lighter
and warmer, the use of this form as an alternative to animal
skin has increased. Pleathers are made out of polyurethane or
polyvinyl chloride. An animal rights activist might like this.
Talk about Pleather spiked dog collars and the the animal has
bigger bark that the bite.

The most well known pleathers are Naugahyde made from a
fictional animal called the Nauga whose hides are supposedly the
natural source of all the Naugahyde manufactured. According to
the story the Naugas are nocturnal aquatic mammals without hair
that live in the Naugatuck River, and can be made to come to the
surface at night by shining a flashlight into the water. The
Naugas are then captured and sorted to make Naugahyde. The seams
between the Naugas disappear resulting in a seamless,
leather-like Naughyde. The save the Naugas campaign continues.

Wearing Clogs in Amsterdam

Rahul viz

One of the most unique items to take back home from Amsterdam
are clogs, Holland's traditional wooden shoes. Clogs originated
as far back as 1367, or probably are even older, and have been
worn as daily footwear ever since. In Holland's wet and cold
climate, only clogs will keep feet dry and warm at all times.
And contrary to appearances they're more comfortable than one
would imagine. One can find a large variety in clogs and see
clog making and clog painting at De Klompenboer.

Clogs are prepared of balsa-white poplar wood. For this purpose
the trees are especially grown. Though while making clogs a
perfect pair of clogs one needs fresh, wet wood, cut in square
blocks. After chopping the wood it is smoothed bring the right
shape. For the clogs to be durable finished clogs are painted.
The traditional clogs are painted yellow with a red pattern. It
is said that each village used to have its own pattern. At
present clogs used for daily wear are still yellow and red and
souvenir clogs are painted in a large variety of patterns and
colors, varying from flowers to entire street scenes. The
pattern for making clogs for the purpose of souvenirs is
dependent on the fashion of the day. The fashion changes with
time and sometime back summer tourists seem to prefer black and
white clogs in a 'cow pattern'.

At the 'Klompenboer' lots of types of clogs are exhibited and
stored as well as exhibiting a large variety of antique clogs.
The owner Mrs. Jonker, shows clog painting on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. If one wants one can always request the traditional
craftsman Bruno Jonker to show how to make the perfect clog. All
the history of clogs is known to him and he will also tell the
story of bridal Clogs.

The significance of wooden clogs is very important. As it has
been known these wooden "shoes" are not just for decoration;
they are very much a part of everyday life in Holland. Many
citizens wear wooden clogs, and they wear them all the time. The
different colors of the clogs correspond to their purpose of
wearing clogs - yellow shoes for working, red shoes for dancing,
and blue shoes for church.

The tourist attraction of any place will not be complete without
an oversized something. Outside the Clog Factory there are two
separate pairs of oversized bright yellow clogs and an enormous
Yellow Clog which two people can comfortably fit in. These clogs
were very photogenic as well as being very attractive.

Traditional clogs are associated with the Netherlands or
Amsterdam as part of the touristic ""Holland" image, where they
are seen as a form of national dress. For the reason that they
wear clogs Dutch people are sometimes called cloggies, that is,
clog-wearers. In Dutch, clogs are known as klompen. The
traditional, all wooden, Dutch clogs have been officially
labeled as safety shoes. Today, Dutch clogs are available in
many tourist shops. Wearing clogs is considered to be healthy
for the feet.

Career Apparel: Dress for Success

Josh Stone

Ever wondered why you didn't land your dream job? You rehearsed
for your interview, researched the company, and appeared to be a
qualified applicant at the interview. Perhaps, it was your href="http://www.bestbuyuniforms.com/career%20apparel.htm">career
apparel choice that made that man behind the desk turn up
his nose.

Even if it is just a restaurant or thrift store in which you are
applying for, showing up in casual street clothes is always a
no-no. Selecting the appropriate and classy href="http://www.bestbuyuniforms.com/career%20attire.htm">career
apparel could make or break your chances of getting the job.

The first thing you should do is analyze the atmosphere of the
company that you're applying to. Is it a laid-back atmosphere?
Are there a lot of cleaning duties or stocking tasks involved?
Or, is it a high-class establishment where employees are
consistently dressed in Sunday best href="http://www.bestbuyuniforms.com/career%20uniforms.htm">caree
r apparel? Do some investigating by popping in one day to
observe what other employees are wearing. Talk to former
employees about the expectations of the business's supervisor.

If you are applying for a position with a big-league business
(such as a bank, high-class retail store, investment company,
etc.), wear nothing short than high-class polished career
apparel. Even if you are in your 20s, dressing as if you are 10
years older will give you a mature and professional air.

For women's href="http://www.bestbuyuniforms.com/career%20clothing.htm">caree
r apparel, you might choose to wear a white button-down
blouse, a long black skirt or href="http://www.bestbuyuniforms.com/dress%20pants.htm">dress
pants, panty hose and black flat shoes. This may be a far
cry from your usual href="http://www.bestbuyuniforms.com/career%20clothes.htm">clothi
ng, but remember, you are trying to present your best
professional image--not your personal tastes.

If you wear contacts, put your glasses on. Your hair should be
tied back in a bun or tightly-secured pony tail. Make-up should
be minimal, wearing no bright eye shadow or lipstick. Career
apparel is all about looking smart and sophisticated, and being
able to pull it off.

For men, depending on the company's reputation, a nice knit
sweater with a collared shirt underneath might suffice for
career apparel for the interview. If not, stick to the
traditional pin-striped button-down shirt with a solid tie and
khaki or black dress pants. No tennis shoes! Try loafers or
polished dress shoes.

If you are interviewing for a more relaxed establishment (like a
pet store, newspaper delivery or fast-food restaurant) or for a
physical labor job, dressing in black href="http://www.bestbuyuniforms.com/tuxedo%20ties.htm">tie
href="http://www.bestbuyuniforms.com/career%20wear.htm">career
apparel may be a bit over the top. Instead opt for
comfortable career apparel- within reason. Wearing blue jeans is
an interview taboo. Go for casual tan corduroy or cotton pants
and a long-sleeved knit top. Keep it simple, but make sure you
appear clean-cut, well put together and polished. For women, add
a pair of small gold earrings. For men, flourish with a nice
wrist watch.

While career apparel is important in impressing your prospective
boss, be sure to adlib extras that will make your face
memorable: smile a lot, speak clearly and concisely, be
knowledgeable about the expected work duties, and above all, be
courteous and polite.

What You Should Know About Canvas Shoes

Masni Rizal Mansor

Canvas is a coarse cloth material made of hemp that is used in a
number of things including sails, tents, boards (used for
painting on, i.e. painting canvasses) and shoes. The canvas shoe
is a very basic form of casual shoe or sneaker. It is
constructed very simply with a canvas upper and a rubber sole.
Canvas shoes can be purchased in high top or low top and are
available in almost any color you could ask for. Some canvas
shoes, especially those made for children, have cute designs on
them as well. On the other hand canvas shoes do not have much
shock absorption, cushioning or support and therefore are not
suitable for any type of "pounding the pavement" sort of
activities. If you run, do aerobics, play tennis or any other
sports then go in for an honest to goodness pair of sneakers and
leave the canvas shoes for the beach or backyard. Canvas shoes
are fun, casual, and versatile and are also not that pricey. You
can buy a decent pair of them for anywhere from twenty to thirty
dollars (and sometimes less).

A big advantage of canvas shoes is that they are a "low
maintenance" and "no fuss" kind of shoe. In other words taking
care of them is a snap. First of all it is a good idea to
protect your canvas shoes before wearing them (or even better,
upon first purchasing them) by applying a cloth care spray or
starch to them. If you have sensitive skin it is wise to wear
vinyl or rubber gloves when you spray your shoes and then give
your hands a good washing afterwards. If you have asthma or any
other respiratory problem always wear a mask and if the spray
gets into your eyes or causes your skin any irritation then
rinse immediately with lots of water.

Canvas shoes can easily be thrown in the washing machine when
they are dirty. Before you do so always remove any surface dirt
from the sole or sides of the shoe with a slightly damp cloth.
If the shoes are caked in mud then gently scrub them with a soft
brush and water first. Any commercial detergent (such as Tide,
Ivory Snow, Sunlight or Gain) should get them nice and clean. It
is advisable to remove the laces and either wash them with the
canvas shoes, hand wash them or wash them the next time you do a
load of laundry. Canvas shoes can easily be hung up on a line to
air dry. They generally should be ready to wear in a relatively
short period of time.

If you wear a pair of canvas shoes in the wintertime (although
this is not recommended- too cold!) and end up with thin white
wavy lines on the upper of the sole, with a concentration of
them around the sole of the shoe then these are salt stains from
the road and must be removed as soon as possible. If left in
place, salt stains will cause the canvas to go hard and then
crack and the stitching is likely to unfortunately, rot away.
Avoid this by washing your canvas shoes with a 'suede and
fabric' shampoo and then set them somewhere to air dry. Never
allow canvas shoes to dry by placing them near a radiator,
fireplace or any other form of direct heat as the intensity of
the heat is likely to destroy the material of the shoe.

Canvas shoes don't always retain their natural shape and
sometimes it is because of the way we wear them such as how we
walk in them. Some people put more weight on one side of their
shoe than the other and this could potentially serve to wear
down the sole or heel of a shoe and cause the upper to be
stretched unnecessarily. To remedy this problem, use shoetrees
(which can be purchased at most department and fine shoe stores)
or pack the toes of your shoes with newspaper (or regular paper)
to help them retain their original shape. And keep in mind that
shoelaces need to be replaced once in awhile. Always tie up your
laces and don't buy ones that are either too long (dangerous and
sloppy looking, not to mention they get dirty so easily) or too
short (they will draw the shoe together unnaturally to
compensate for their lack of length).

The History of Trainers - Part One

Trainershack.co.uk

In the first of our four part series looking at the world
history of trainers, we look at the period from 1917 to 1972.
This period includes a selection of some of the first trainers
produced including the Stan Smith from Adidas and the Pro-Keds
Royal Plus.

1917 - Converse All Star Launched in 1917 and taking the Chuck
Taylor name from 1923 in honour of the world famous basketball
player, the shoe has been a favourite in the music world and has
been associated with Snoop Dogg and bands including The Ramones
and The Strokes. The shoe also featured in the film "I, Robot"
starring Will Smith. The trainer's classic status, history and
styling should mean it is around for many years to come.

1964 - Adidas Stan Smith Quality design and still popular across
the world since it's launch as the first all-leather performance
tennis shoe. The shoe has been re-issued in many colours over
the years but this is the classic white model, combining retro
and athletic fashion. These trainers go with any outfit.

1968 - Puma Suede The basic design of these trainers, coupled
with the wide variety of colours, these are one of the world's
best loved shoes. The 1990s brought about a revival of these
Puma classics which can be worn with virtually anything and
still look good.

1969 - Adidas Superstar This was the first low top basketball
shoe to be made and is known by millions as the "shell toe", a
feature that was included to protect the toes of the players. A
favourite on the hip hop scene with its chunky fit and styling,
Run-DMC released the song "My Adidas" in recognition of the
shoe. The trainer, worn by basketball legend Kareem Abdul Jabbar
when they were released, can be seen worn across the globe today
including in every US prison!

1971 - Pro-Keds Royal Plus Available as either a high or low
top, these trainers were easily recognisable by their red and
navy stripes. Developed for the basketball court, these Keds
were worn by Nate Archibald of the Kansas City Kings.

1972 - Adidas SL 72 With the 'SL' standing for Super Light,
these trainers were designed for the 1972 Olympics in Munich and
were incredibly light. These trainers featured a built in heel
counter and were re-issued in 2004.

That's it for the first instalment, next time we will look at
the period up to 1987 which includes the birth of the mighty
Jordan.

Important Considerations When Buying Running Shoes

Gregg Hall

Buying a good running shoe is not as easy as it once was. I can
remember when I was a teenager thirty years ago that you only
had a couple of choices when it came to running shoes, tennis
shoes, or basketball shoes. Now, like everything else in our
world we are inundated with choices.

Some of the features included in today's high tech running shoes
include motion control: for runners with low arches, moderate to
severe over pronators with maximum rear foot control and extra
support on the arch side of the shoe, for example bigger runners
like myself. Running shoes with extra stability for mild or
moderate over pronators, low to normal arches, shoes have a
combination of good support and mid sole cushioning. Neutral
cushioned running shoes with maximum mid sole cushioning and
minimum medial support for bio mechanically efficient runners,
mid foot or forefoot strikers with high or normal arches, and
Performance Training running shoes: for racing, which are
generally lighter, if you are bio mechanically efficient you can
use them for training

So now that you have an idea of your choices, how do you find
the right shoe at the right price? According to insiders in the
shoe industry, a new product sells at a premium while older
models are sold off through various channels at substantial
discounts. Therefore you could hope for discounts on new items
from 10% to probably a maximum of 20% and all the way up to 40%
or more on older year models.

Though I loathe the idea of trudging through the mall to look
for anything, sometimes it may be worthwhile for you to do a
little homework and try shoes on there to be sure they fir then
go online to see what kind of deals you can find on the style
and size that you found that works for you. I know you are
thinking that is taking advantage of the salespeople at the shoe
stores and keeping them from getting a commission, but where
should your loyalty lie, with your feet and your own pocket or
should you be loyal to someone you don't even know?

As a fulltime internet marketer, I live on the internet and I
can tell you that there is no shortage of choices on anything
and everything you could possibly want online. So my advice is,
try them on locally then find them in your size and get your
best deal online.

Adidas running shoes

Stefan Bergström

It feels like Adidas has been around since the time of the
beginning, the shoes has a part of my life as long as I can
remember. But the Adidas story began in Herzogenaurach,
Germany1920, when a man named Adi Dassler manufactured a pair of
canvas shoes. Dassler strived to follow some principles in his
manufacturing: protect the user of his shoes from injuries, make
a durable product and produce the best shoe for the sports
requirement. In 1925 Dassler introduce a shoe with spikes and
studs. He also introduced different shoes for different
distances. He always used the best material to be found. At the
Olympic games 1928, the athletes wore his shoes. 1937 he had a
list of 30 different shoes for totally eleven sports, in his
product line. The first shoes he made after the war, was made of
canvas and rubber from American fuel tanks. In 1948 he takes the
first two syllables of his first and last name as the name for
his products, together with the three stripes, and registered it
as an adidas trademark. The first of his classical all-round
training shoe: Samba, was introduced 1950. At the Olympic games
in Helsinki1952, track shoes with removable spikes were used, of
course manufactured by Adidas. As a supplement to shoes, sport
bags are implemented in the business. At the Olympics 1960, 75
percent of all track & field athletes had his shoes on their
fetes. Adidas is now dominating the World Series. Adidas balls
are launched in 1963. At the Soccer World Cup 1970, Adidas ball,
the"Telstar", is the "official ball". Up until the present day,
Adidas balls are used at all major soccer events. 1974: the
first adidas tennis rackets are produced. 2006. On January 31,
2006, adidas-Salomon AG announces that it has closed its
acquisition of Reebok International Ltd. providing the new
adidas Group with a footprint of around €9.5 billion ($11.8
billion) in the global athletic footwear, apparel and hardware
markets. "We are delighted with the closing of the Reebok
transaction, which marks a new chapter in the history of our
Group," said adidas-Salomon AG Chairman and CEO Herbert Hainer.
"By combining two of the most respected and well-known brands in
the worldwide sporting goods industry, the new Group will
benefit from a more competitive worldwide platform, well-defined
and complementary brand identities, a wider range of products,
and a stronger presence across teams, athletes, events and
leagues." Adidas-Salomon AG will remain the company's name for
the time being. The change of the name to adidas AG is subject
to shareholder approval and will be proposed to the Annual
General Meeting in May 2006.

Does Beauty Have to Mean Pain? Not if you Choose the Right

Kathy Steinemann

Sexy shoes or boots can turn a humdrum outfit into a stunning
creation. However, too many women choose footwear based purely
on appearance, willing to experience pain in the name of
fashion. It doesn't have to be that way!

Stiletto heels are adored by most men - and many women. They
make beautiful legs look stunningly gorgeous. However, spike
heels can be very uncomfortable, even painful. If you learn some
basic facts, you can avoid the pain and wear a smile instead of
a frown.

* The Perfect Design *

An incline of over 2 inches from toe to heel can increase the
impact of each step sevenfold or more. Choosing a pair of heeled
boots or shoes doesn't rule out sexy stilettos. If you purchase
footwear with a stacked toe, keeping the incline to 2 inches or
less, you can create the illusion of real stilettos - while
avoiding the pain.

Modern materials and manufacturing techniques for athletic shoes
are also utilized in today's women's shoes. Try to find a sole
with air pockets and a see-through construction. The air pockets
reduce painful impact, and the transparency gives the impression
of floating on air, while making shoes look dainty.

Insist on sturdy, quality construction with straps that hug
(without chafing) to provide firm support. Shoes with leather
uppers will wick away moisture and heat, allowing your feet to
breathe in comfort.

Whatever your choice, footwear should be comfortable from the
first moment you try it on. High-quality footwear does not
require a breaking-in period.

* Perfect Sizing *

Don't try to squeeze into something that is too small. If you
must wear a 7 1/2 wide instead of a 7 narrow, do it. Comfort
must always be number 1 on your list of priorities. You may have
seen commercials for high-heel comfort gel inserts. While there
is nothing wrong with this extra layer of protection, it cannot
replace proper style and fit.

* The Tryouts *

After you have found your 'perfect' footwear, try it on and walk
around inside the store for a few minutes. Place your weight
gently, heel first, rocking forward onto the ball of each foot.
Take small steps, legs close together, pretending that you are
wearing a really tight skirt without a kick pleat. Toes should
be pointed to the front, not to the side.

Do you feel absolutely comfortable? Great! Ring up the sale! Do
you wobble from side to side when you walk? Do you feel
unsteady? Pick out something else! Wobbling is unsafe and
unsexy. If you sprain or break an ankle, you won't feel very
attractive hobbling around on crutches.

Keeping your sales slip handy, proceed at once to an indoor
location with a smooth floor. Stroll around in your new shoes or
boots for about an hour. Practice walking around corners,
navigating stairs, and making turns - like a model on a runway.
After the hour has passed, how do your feet feel? Do they burn?
Do they have blisters or tender spots? If the answer is 'yes',
return them to the store immediately and look for something
else. The soles will still be in near pristine condition. Once
the final decision has been made, spend more time practicing. Do
not venture out in public until you feel confident walking on
floors, uneven surfaces, and carpeting. If you plan to go
dancing, rehearse for awhile in front of a mirror.

* Now - Soak Up the Admiration! *

Your careful selection may take some time - but the reward is
worth it! You will feel like a starlet as you walk, and the
comfortable, radiant smile on your face will force everyone
nearby to take a second look at a beautiful, poised YOU.

Are Golf Shoes Really Necessary?

Carl Graeber

While some kind of footwear is required on most golf courses,
are golf shoes really necessary? This is a question to be
answered by each individual golfer as it is his or her feet we
are talking about.

Some courses require soft spikes only so the course doesn't get
chewed up with the walking around people have to do when
playing, especially if the people are walking the entire course.
And, most club houses will only allow soft spikes to be worn
inside, to protect the carpet.

Let us be honest with one another, the vast majority of golf
shoes are not attractive footwear. But, golf shoes are far from
being the ugliest footwear in sports. That honor, dubious though
it may be, belongs entirely to bowling shoes. Who, in their
right mind, would want to wear red and green shoes, especially
that type of shoes? At least golf shoes are designed in a more
practical, and somewhat more attractive, manner. But, are they
really needed in order for a person to play golf?

No, they are not. The footwear a golfer chooses to wear can be
practically anything from moccasins to a good athletic shoe. A
golfer's footwork is more important than his or her choice in
footwear.

But, the shoe a golfer wears should be comfortable on his or her
feet. There is nothing worse for a golfer than an uncomfortable
shoe. If the toes are pinched, or the back rides up on the heel,
the golfer will be miserable and will not be able to concentrate
on playing golf, which is why he or she is on the golf course in
the first place.

So, comfort comes first. After comfort, traction is important.
This is because the golfer can't have their feet turning after
they have struck the ball. If this happens, the ball will careen
wildly, most likely winding up as a major league slice or hook.
The ball, though, will not go where the golfer had planned to
hit it.

Should a golfer choose to forego golf shoes for another type of
footwear, he or she should think about the type of shoe he or
she wants to wear on the links. They should then examine the
tread pattern on the bottom of the shoe. If the bottom of the
shoe is slick, with no pattern at all, it would be a good idea
to leave these shoes behind as there will be little, if any
traction, and none at all if the course is wet, either from rain
or dew.

What is the best type of tread pattern? Again, this will be up
to the individual golfer and his or her preferences. For some,
the old tire tread pattern (used on the sole of a lot of boots
and sandals) works well. This type of shoe sole will provide
traction for the golfer. Some may prefer a circular pattern of
sole, while others may like something entirely different.

The most important thing, though, is for the golfer to be
comfortable and confident with the shoes being worn when
playing. In fact, the less a golfer thinks about shoes when
playing is a good thing.

Baby Feet, Oh So Important!

Sue Arnoldus, CPed

I am sharing this information with parents from my perspective
as a Board Certified Pedorthist.

Baby moccasins are an excellent footwear choice for your baby's
feet.

Your baby's feet are made for baby moccasins (or should I say,
vise versa?). Baby feet consist mainly of flesh and cartilage.
At this age, the bones of the feet are more gristle-like
cartilage than bone. Your baby has a lot of growing to do before
he or she has hardness to his or her foot.

At this baby stage, they have a lot of space between the bones
in their feet, and there are basically no joints developed yet.
It takes about 18 years for the foot to become fully developed.

Ordinary shoes for babies should be outlawed. Most baby shoes
have a thick, stiff sole on them. These are not good for a
baby's foot, unless some kind of correction is being attempted,
via medial treatment.

Babies seem to have an intuitive sense about what is good for
their feet. I have yet to see a baby with shoes on who isn't
constantly working to get them off their feet. Babies appear to
know ordinary shoes are not good for them.

Baby moccasins make a lot of sense, because they are soft,
lightweight and do not restrict the foot in any way. That is
critical for baby foot movement and development.

As babies begin to walk, the soft sole of the moccasin is
critical, as it allows the baby's foot to flex and bend as they
try to stabilize themselves. Much of our balancing comes from
our toes. If the sole of the shoe is not flexible, the toes are
unable to function.

A baby's toes have 15 times the gripping capacity of shoe
wearing adults. Let their toes work for them, by putting their
little feet in moccasins.

Men's Dress Shoes Fashions

Bilal Babic

The dress shoe may seem uninteresting, but it is anything but.
In an age when tennis shoes and sneakers are worn all around,
men's dress shoes may not be as popular, but they display the
distinctness within those that are severe and the posers. There
is a big array of styles, and it revolves on what you are
looking for. Men's dress shoes go from borderline casual to very
deluxe, and can adapt to any situation. It appears that leather,
canvas, and suede are all highly used components for men's dress
shoes.

Men's dress shoes that people picture are the monotonous black
shoes with thin laces that we all learned to dread as kids.
However, dress shoes have changed a lot since then. The big
difference is that the sole has undergone some alterations,
going away from the wooden and plastic soles to rubber ones,
allowing for more comfort. Also, there are more models
available, with wingtips and penny-loafers making a revival.
What styles are popular this summer can be read here: href="http://www.mensflair.com/news-trends/summer-dress-shoes-tre
nd.php"
target="_blank">http://www.mensflair.com/news-trends/summer-dress
-shoes-trend.php.

The dress shoe has been approved to dress down, with some shoes
being derived from moccasins. However, Italian shoes still
continue to reign, with New York and London being close. As
sneakers become more popular, they have been mixed with more
moderate men's dress shoes to create blends; although looked
down, they are becoming popular with fashionable styles.

Also of note are dress versions of sandals, which are catching
on as more people take on more holistic lifestyles. Even though
not a dress shoe, but that they are being worn in more formal
settings is of note, as well as the controversy that they have
actualised in regards to formal wear, especially as "tribal"
fashions come and go in fashion circles, and New Age beliefs
continue to take hold. It will be interesting to see if sandals
ever crossover from women's fashion, or will be a really male
footwear.

It is interesting to note that wingtips and penny-loafers are
fashionable due to a shift of nostalgia. As more modern styles
become attainable, new designers are continually trying to
update the classics, if for no other cause than to see what
modern materials can do to old classics. At the same time, boots
are also being taken more seriously than in past, possibly due
to an interest in western music and Texas' rise in popularity.
These dress boots are made of different leather than usual
boots, as well as having more apparent needlework.

In short, there are an expansive variety of dress shoes
available, and it is up to you what style you will wear, from
the conventional to almost fun.

Ugg Boots - Oprah's Favourite Footwear Is Here To Stay

David Malan

What do Oprah, Drew Barrymore, Keanu Reaves, Kate Hudson, Sienna
Miller, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, Sarah Jessica Parker,
Pamela Anderson, Victoria Beckham, Cat Deeley, Minnie Driver,
Danni Minogue, Leonardo DiCaprio, Julia Roberts, Shawn Wayans,
the Spielberg family, and plenty more celebrities have in
common? Aside from the obvious, they, and millions of
Australians, all own a pair of the most comfortable footwear in
the world - sheepskin ugg boots.

Oprah loves her ugg boots so much that she featured them on an
episode of her popular show entitled Oprah's Favourite Things
2005. Kate Hudson wore a pair of trendy ugg boots on the poster
for the movie Raising Helen. Pamela Anderson is said to have
started a Californian ugg boots craze when she wore her ugg
boots on the set of Baywatch. The list of celebrities bitten by
the ugg boot craze goes on and on.

So, of course, the question is, are ugg boots a short-lived fad
that will pass like platform-heeled footwear, flared pants, big
hair and other fashionable boots, or are they here to stay? The
fact of the matter is that those who buy ugg boots to be seen as
part of the latest sheepskin-inspired fashion craze will
probably move on when the next footwear fashion, sheepskin or
otherwise, comes along. The majority however, will likely grow
so attached to their ugg boots' perfect fit, comfortable
sheepskin warmth in winter, and practical usefulness as
around-the-house footwear in summer, that they will regard their
ugg boots as essential to their wardrobe as their pair of trusty
denims.

Like denim jeans, sheepskin ugg boots had their beginnings many
years ago, long before they became fashion accessories.
Originating down under in Australia, Australian surfers have
worn ugg boots on cold mornings heading out to catch an early
wave for as far back as any can remember. Known for generations
by many names -- ugg boots, ugh boots, ug boots, uggys, uggs,
winter sheepskin boots, or simply as sheepskin footwear,
Australians still regard the trusty ugg boot to be as much a
part of Australian history and culture as Vegemite, AC/DC and a
slab of beers slung over the shoulder on the way to a barbie at
a mate's house.

Now that sheepskin ugg boots are a fashion statement as much as
they are winter sheepskin footwear, they're available in many
new and trendy variations. In addition to the original sheepskin
leather, you can now buy ugg boots in blue, pink, beige, sand,
black and chestnut, to match your personality, outfit, or
fashion statement objective. Not just Aussie souvenir gifts
anymore, ugg boots are personal comfort and fashion essentials.

If you follow the care instructions, your ugg boots could well
outlast your favourite denims. The ugg boot's soft sheepskin
fleece molds to the shape of its wearer's foot, making for a
perfect fit. When you put on your own uggs, you know it's your
pair of ugg boots, because the sheepskin inside the boot shapes
to fit your own foot perfectly, just the same as your denim
jeans shape to your body. Look after your sheepskin ugg boots,
and they will remain your favourite item of clothing, long after
winter is past, and the next big footwear fashion has arrived.

This Autumn's Footwear Fashion; Platforms and Booties!

Andrew Regan

Sarah Jessica Parker famously made Manolo Blahnik a household
name in Sex and the City. However, long before the erstwhile
Carrie Bradshaw and her girlfriends made the legendary shoe
designer a figure of mass consumption, "Manolo's" were already
an essential item in the celebrity world and amongst the fashion
elite. But today, as more and more people demand their goods,
how can the Manolos, Jimmy Choos and Vivienne Westwoods of the
world still get away with charging women thousands of pounds for
their shoes? The simple explanation - women love shoes - may
seem an overused stereotype but it is, sadly or not, very true.

Take one of the leading shoe trends for Autumn 2006: the
platform. Chunky heels are once again all the rage, but they owe
more to 1980s decadence than to the Swinging Sixties. The recent
return to the skinny jeans and leggings of the Bananarama age
has prompted a comeback for the heavy platform and the stacked
heel. But don't get carried away with images of Olivia Newton
John trying desperately to extinguish her cigarette with her
killer heel at the end of Grease - stacked platforms may also be
worn with a bell-shaped dress or skirt, so there's hope yet.

Also on the footwear catwalk this Fall are ankle length
"booties". Once again hailing back to the 1980s, booties vary
slightly in length, from below the ankle to just above the
ankle. Often available with side-zips and buttons, the bootie
will also be worn with leggings this season, as well as skirts,
jeans or slim trousers. Though many designs are available, the
most popular has so far proved to be Steve Madden's black suede
model with a brown wooden heel.

Animal print footwear has also been gracing the catwalks and
fashion magazines with its presence this season. Bring out the
Cruella De Vil in you (animal-friendly, of course) by donning
stylish zebra, leopard or Dalmatian-print platforms, worn with
black tights and a pencil skirt. Top fashion gurus have even
okayed the right to mix animal patterns together by assembling
them with plainer accessories, so fashion slaves may feel free
to go completely wild.

The prevalence of patent leather once again harks back to that
vampish, 1980s feel; worn with a belted sweater and a skirt,
patent leather boots can bestow a classy day-to-evening
appearance, and if layered with a polo neck, will provide a more
mod-ish look. Last but not least, the Autumn season would amount
to nothing if it did not include the high boot. Though booties
may currently be stealing the limelight, high boots will always
provide a sophisticated air that few other items of footwear are
capable of; wear with a patterned coat, or a mini skirt and a
cropped jacket to achieve maximum effect.

Clearly, this Autumn's fashionable footwear is both trendy and
functional, whether worn with the season favourite (leggings) or
not. But rest assured, you won't need Carrie's contacts or
Charlotte's money to obtain them: most high street retailers,
like Schuh, sell
similar models for much lower prices, so that anyone can afford
these essential Autumn fashion items.

All About Leather

Alex Matthews

For those of you that have a fascination with leather goods, I
am here to shed some insight of this wonderful material. Leather
is a material created through the tanning of hides, pelts and
skins of animals, primarily cows. Leather is a very important
clothing material, and its other uses are legion. Together with
wood, leather formed the basis of much ancient technology.
Leather with the fur still attached is simply called fur. There
are a number of processes whereby the skin of a dead animal can
be formed into a supple, strong material commonly called
leather. Vegetable-tanned leather is tanned using tannin (hence
the name "tanning") and other ingredients found in vegetable
matter, tree bark, and other such sources. It is supple and
brown in color, with the exact shade depending on the mix of
chemicals and the color of the flesh. Vegetable-tanned leather
is not stable in water; it tends to discolor, and if left to
soak and then dry it will shrink and become less supple and
harder. In hot water, it will shrink drastically and plasticize,
becoming rigid and eventually becoming brittle. Alum-tanned
leather is tanned using aluminum salts mixed with a variety of
binders and protein sources, such as flour, egg yolk, etc.
Purists argue that alum-tanned leather is technically "tawed"
and not tanned, as the resulting material will rot in water.
Very light shades of leather are possible using this process,
but the resulting material is not as supple as vegetable-tanned
leather. Rawhide is made by scraping the skin thin, soaking it
in lime, and then stretching it while it dries. Like
alum-tanning, rawhide is not technically "leather", but is
usually lumped in with the other forms. Rawhide is stiffer and
more brittle than other forms of leather, and is primarily found
in uses such as drum heads where it does not need to flex
significantly; it is also cut up into cords for use in lacing or
stitching, or for making dog toys. Boiled leather is a hide
product (vegetable-tanned leather) that has been hardened by
being immersed in hot water, or in boiled wax or similar
substances. Historically, it was used as armour due to its
hardness and light weight, but it has also been used for book
binding. Chrome-tanned leather, invented in 1858, is tanned
using chromium sulfate and other salts of chromium. It is more
supple and pliable than vegetable-tanned leather, and does not
discolor or lose shape as drastically in water as
vegetable-tanned. More esoteric colors are possible using chrome
tanning. Brain-tanned leathers are exceptionaly absorbent of
water. They are made by a labor-intensive process which uses
emulsified oils (often those of animal brains) and which has not
been industralized. They are known for their exceptional
softness and their ability to be washed. Leather--usually
vegetable-tanned leather--can be oiled to improve its water
resistance. This supplements the natural oils remaining in the
leather itself, which can be washed out through repeated
exposure to water. Frequent oiling of leather, with mink oil,
neatsfoot oil or a similar material, keeps it supple and
improves its lifespan dramatically. In general, leather is sold
in three forms... Full-Grain leather, made from the finest raw
material, are clean natural hides which have not been sanded to
remove imperfections. Only the hair has been removed. The grain
remains in its natural state which will allow the best fiber
strength, resulting in greater durability. The natural grain
also has natural breathability, resulting in greater comfort.
The natural Full-Grain surface will wear better than other
leather. Rather than wearing out, it will develop a natural
"Patina" and grow more beautiful over time. The finest
furniture, and footwear, are made from Full Grain leather.
Corrected-Grain Leather (also called "top-grain leather").
Corrected Leather is fuzzy on one side and smooth on the other.
The smooth side is the side where the hair and natural grain
used to be. The hides, which are made from inferior quality raw
materials, have all of the natural grain sanded off, and an
artificial grain applied. Top grain leather generally must be
heavily painted to cover up the sanding and stamping process.
Suede is an interior split of the hide. It is "fuzzy" on both
sides. Suede is less durable than top-grain. Suede is cheaper
because many pieces of suede can be split from a single
thickness of hide, whereas only one piece of top-grain can be
made. However, as the look of full-grain is in demand,
manufacturers use a variety of techniques to make suede appear
to be full-grain. For example, in one process, glue is mixed
with one side of the suede, which is then pressed through
rollers; these flatten and even out one side of the material,
giving it the smooth appearance of full-grain. Latigo is one of
the trade names for this product. Leather from other animals
Today, most leather is made of cow hides, but many exceptions
exist. Lamb and deer skin are used for soft leather in more
expensive apparels. Kangaroo leather is used to make items which
need to be strong but flexible, such as motorcycle gloves.
Kangaroo leather is favored by motorcyclists specifically
because of its lighter weight and higher abrasion resistance as
compared to cowhide. Leather made from more exotic skins has at
different times in history been considered very beautiful. For
this reason certain snakes and crocodiles have been hunted to
near extinction. In the 1970s, farming of ostriches for their
feathers became popular. As a side product, ostrich leather
became available and is currently used by all the big fashion
houses like Hermès, Prada, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton. Ostrich
leather has a characteristic "goose bump" look because of the
large follicles from which the feathers grew. In Thailand, sting
ray leather is used in wallets and belts in the same way as
regular cow leather. Sting ray leather is as tough and durable
as hard plastic. The leather is often dyed black and covered
with tiny round bumps in the natural pattern of the back ridge
of an animal. These bumps are then usually dyed white to
highlight the decoration. Preservation and Conditioning of
Leather The natural fibers of leather will break down with the
passage of time. Acidic leathers are particularly vulnerable to
red rot, which causes powdering of the surface and a change in
consistency. Damage from red rot is aggravated by high
temperatures and relative humidities, and is irreversible.
Exposure to long periods of low relative humidities (below 40%)
can cause leather to become desiccated, irreversably changing
the fibrous structure of the leather. Various treatments are
available such as conditioners, but these are not recommended by
conservators since they impregnate the structure of the leather
artifact with active chemicals, are sticky, and attract stains.

Gardening Shoes

Robert Singleton

Many of us have a garden in our homes. Your garden maybe just a
tiny little patch, but it is still a garden. With a garden there
is a price to pay, and that is keeping it looking great. So you
head outside armed with all of your gardening tools and suddenly
you're knee deep in dirt, mud and some muck. What happened to
your gardening shoes that were supposed to protect your feet?

The chances are that if you are wearing normal shoes for the
garden, then not only did you get unhappy feet but your shoes
are completely ruined. The question is what can you wear for
gardening? This is the time to check out gardening shoes. While
they are not attractive looking shoes, they have the advantage
of protecting your feet and legs from nature.

Therefore what type of shoes do you need? The answer to this
question depends on the condition of your garden and what type
of work that you will be doing. There are mainly two types of
gardening footwear that you can get. The first choice is that of
gardening shoes.

These shoes will be easy to put on and take off when you need
to. They are usually made from rubber or some other material
that is waterproof. Even on dry days there is usually a muddy
patch lurking somewhere in your garden. Waterproof gardening
shoes therefore can not only make sure the mud stays outside of
your feet, but that they also wash off quite well.

You need to make sure that your new gardening shoes are made of
sturdy material that will hold up to the mud that you can find
in your garden. Sturdy shoes can prevent injury to your feet
from branches, rose thorns, as well as from stray gardening
tools.

The other type of gardening shoe that you can buy is that of
boots. While you definitely will have to struggle a little to
put the boots on, and to take them off, the benefits of
gardening boots goes a long way.

Like your gardening shoes, the boot should be made of a sturdy
material that can stand up to branches with sharp pieces
sticking out, Rose stems and other garden menaces. You need to
find out if your boots are of a waterproof material as well.

Gardening boots that extend up beyond your ankles have the added
advantage of protecting your feet and legs. Deeper levels of
dirt, mud and any water that is still lying around will not seep
into your feet, if your boots rise above the muck.

Depending upon your gardening needs and what type of work you do
in the garden, gardening shoes or gardening boots can protect
your feet while you weed and clean your garden. Any menaces of
nature will not stand a chance against your new garden wear, so
go out and get a pair of gardening shoes today!

soles with optimum arch support, but the bottom of the sandal is

the top straps are pure terrycloth. The sandals are trendy and

Changing Fashions: A Look at the UK Fashion Industry

Glyn Barlow

The UK high street fashion industry is worth an estimated £44.5
billion. In 1960 10% of household expenditure was spent on
clothing and footwear. Today, thanks to discounted prices, lower
production costs abroad and a flood of Chinese imports, only 6%
of household expenditure is spent on keeping us fashionable.
Encouragingly for the consumer, between 2001 and 2005 average
clothing and footwear prices fell 14.4% whilst the cost of
living has risen by 12.6%.

Discounting is rife in the ultra-competitive UK fashion market.
Marks & Spencer remains the market leader in the sale of high
street fashion, but faces fierce competition from discount
fashion specialists such as Primark and TK Maxx. Increasingly,
affluent younger consumers are buying formerly exclusive high
fashion brands such as; Prada (Italy), Chloe (France), Hugo Boss
(Germany), Burberry (UK) and Donna Karan (U.S) to mention but a
few.

The rise of cheap imports has nearly wiped out UK manufacturing.
These days UK manufacturing concentrates on specialist fashion
clothing or luxury products, mostly made for wealthy consumer in
other developed countries. A continued trend in the fashion
industry is the integration of manufacturers and retailers. The
top three fashion retailers in UK; Next, Marks & Spencer and
Arcadia (Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, BHS etc.), are all
manufacturing and retailing their own fashion brands. Exceptions
to this vertical integration are the street fashion brands of
Nike, Adidas and Reebok, who prefer specialist retailers.

To conclude, the UK fashion market will continue to be driven by
retailers rather than manufacturers with a polarisation between
discounters and full-price retailers. The full-price retailers
will capitalise on young consumer demand for couture-house
designs, quality materials and individual styles sold as "fast
fashion" with items offered for a limited time before new styles
are released. Forecasts to 2010 are for the women's, girls and
infants fashion market to grow by 23% with a 15.6% growth for
the men's and boys fashion market.

Play Like The Pros: Buying Athletic Shoes

Dana Bradley

You're not just a fan, you're a player. You don't settle for
being an armchair quarterback, you get out there and get in the
game. But professional athletes have trainers and other experts
to help them choose the best gear to maximize their performance
and minimize risk of injury. How can you make sure that your
gear gets it done? In almost every sport, your footwear is one
of the most important pieces of equipment you will wear. Whether
you need to run for long distances or be able to stop and turn
on a dime, the difference between the right shoes and the wrong
shoes can mean the difference between spending your day on the
field, or on the sidelines. Here are some tips to buying
athletic shoes.

First, what activity will you be spending most of your time
doing? Athletic shoes have come a long way from your basic
sneaker, and are specialized for different sports. There are
some good shoes out there for any activity, called cross
trainers. If you vary your activity widely, say play a pickup
basketball game one week and take an aerobics class the next,
these are probably fine. But if you spend the bulk of your time
doing one or two sports, shoes customized for those activities
will be best for your feet. If you are a runner, cushioning is
important since your feet will be pounding on the running
surface repeatedly. You also want to make sure that the sole of
your shoe is flexible enough, allowing for your foot to bend as
your contact with the road or track goes from heel to toe. If
you do a lot of walking, your shoe will be similar in terms of
needing lots of cushioning, but should be less flexible near the
toe.

Another big factor in choosing athletic shoes is the shape of
your foot. Like people in general, feet come in all shapes and
sizes, and buying a shoe that is not only a top performer for
your sport, but also fits your foot properly, is crucial to
avoiding pain and injury. Your area of greatest concern will be
your arch. People with high arches tend to put more pressure on
the outside of their feet. Look for good cushioning through the
heel, and especially under the arch. If you have low or almost
no arches, you will need more cushioning across the middle of
the foot, to avoid uneven pressure on the inside of your feet.
